Has it ever occurred to anyone that if a children under 5 years of age, with a fertile imagination, asks about death, then depending on how their parent approached the subject, they might be scared for life?

Some things are age-related. You wouldn't teach a baby or toddler about sex, as they're a) not developed enough to even know what sex is all about and b), they're not mature enough to understand the concept.

It depends. I don't think you should lie or avoid the topic if a situation arises or they ask about it. I don't think you need to expose them to it unnecessarily as they will be forced to learn about it soon enough.
