people are going to have sex anyway especially in heat of the moment so why not be prepared?

In this age and time these college students are more aware of STD's than I was almost 40 years ago. There is no excuse for them. I agree with Mr. Martin H. statement.

Quite a few comments say something along the lines of, "If they're old enough to have sex they should be responsible enough to have birth control." Other comments echo the sentiment of "should". It's pointless. We need to look at the facts-- what IS, not what should be. Rejecting a solution because it doesn't meet the criteria for what "should" be is like trying to eat soup with a fork. If kids are NOT responsible enough to get their own birth control, quite a few of them are going to do it ANYWAY. It is simply a fact. The responsible thing for US to do is recognise that and act accordingly.

many studies have shown that even promising abstinence doesnt actually reduce the rate of students having sex - it just means they are less likely to use contraceptive when they do. With the rates of teen and other young mother pregnancies on the rise, I think it is colleges duty to provide their students with contraceptives and information on safe and healthy sex to give our country a more healthy attitude towards sex.

providing condoms / birth control doesn't make people have sex. if one is going to have sex they should have free assess to these. To continue the taboo on condoms and birth control hasn't yet and wont ever encourage people to refrain from it.

Distribute sounds a little strange. I think they should "provide" it to people who actually want it. The majority of college students are going to be sexually active at some point. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. Providing safety will lessen the spread of STD's and lower the chances of illegitimate children

If you are in college you are old enough and should be smart enough to get your own protection.

I think it's great if a college wants to help out but they shouldn't be forced to if it goes against their beliefs
