It might help discourage consumption, but really I don't think it's the governments right to ban sodas. They may not the be the healthiest, but it's still a persons right to drink them if they want.

people need to give up sugary drinks themselves, I gave up sodas two years ago, but once in a while I'll drink a coke

I would want to start replacing all sugary soda with ones that are sweetened with a healthy alternative like stevia (Zevia for example)

Banning things never works. Things are just pushed under ground. The prohibition in the 1930s is one example from history and pork and alcohol in current Islamic states is a current example; if you want either ask a native of an Islamic state they'll get both/either for you!
