People like to quote that it takes 7 pounds of grain to produce one pound of beef. Although this is true, eliminating or at least reducing the number of animals used for food would not make a significant dent in the number of starving people. Many of these people simply do not have adequate access to food - vegetable or animal based.

There is plenty of food (animal and vegetable based) to feed everyone in the world. However, due to living conditions (location, social conditions, economical conditions, corrupt government, wars/social unrest and other factors) many people do not have access to appropriate amount of food.

Switching to a vegan diet would do little to improve these conditions.

It takes 7 pounds of grain to produce one pound of beef. If the excess food saved by switching to a vegan diet was distributed to areas with food insecurity, world hunger could be eliminated (assuming no government corruption or hoarding).

It would be a lot better for the environment, but can't we please keep cheese?

For sure! I am vegan for many reasons, ethics first but helping end hunger is on the list too :)

I believe it will. There are other factors to take into account, but it would be a very strong step towards a better, loving world.

Everyone who answered "no" needs to watch Cowspiracy. It's on youtube. If you add the grains and vegetables we feed to luvestock every day (which is to feed first world, highly privillwged people) to people instead, we could afford to feed 12 and a half billion people. But there are 7 billion people, a lot of which are starving because of the selfish choices of well off and first world people's decision to consume animal products. Go do a little bit of research, bwcause yes, if everyone went vegan there would be no hunger in the world.

Definately! The grains used to feed slaughtered and abused animals at Slaughterhouses and Factory farms would feed millions!!!
