My grandparents moved next door to us when I was 7. My grandfather loved everybody and everything. Before he cut the grass, he would walk the entire yard to look for toads or baby bunnies. He would move them under a pine tree so he could cut the grass.

I have had a special connection with nature from my earliest memories, I equate nature with spirituality.

Depends on how you define appreciate, because there is some maturity and experience you must possess before you really appreciate something. I don't think kids 0-5 years old can really appreciate nature, they emulate adults or like interacting with nature; but, to truly appreciate something as precious as nature requires a little more development (kind of like knowing and valuing love).
