One part of me thinks that I wouldn't, because I am currently experiencing the trials of caring for a 17 year old cat at the moment. And it is not fun. But I imagine that if I saw the pet in person, and suspected that no one else would adopt it, I just might. Also, I'm not sure how ethical it is to buy a newly bred animal, when there are so many abandoned animals in need of homes. I suspect that there are more than enough cats and dogs to meet the companion needs of people, but because people usually want young pets, there is so much demand for more breeding. And obviously, I think it is just horrible to get a pet and then try to get rid of it when it gets older and harder to take care of. I wish that buying and adopting a pet was as difficult as adopting a child, because it is such an important responsibility, very comparable to raising a child.
