I think that the parent should or shouldn't, depending on the food. Almost everything in the US has at least 1 mg of sodium in it. It is almost impossible to completely avoid foods that have no sodium in them. I also think some of it depends on what the parent thinks. If the parent doesn't really mind them eating a lot of sodium, then it isn't really a big problem, but it's when it gets to a parent not wanting their child to eat any sodium at all, then that is where the problems start to strike in your poll.
