It's their house. However ...

It is nice to warn people ahead of time, so they aren't unprepared and don't have to walk around in something uncomfortable, embarrassing, or delicate and easily damaged. (All of the above have happened to me at one time or another.)

And if you plan on making your guests take their shoes off, go the distance and have a supply of clean slippers on hand. If you're asking for extra-politeness, be extra-polite about it.
