I am not sure it works when the children are young, but I rather see it "be banked" into a savings account for college....

I had a horrible grade in Reading in Fourth Grade. Dad told me if I boosted it to a C, we'd get another cat. I got the C and the cat. You can call it bribery or a reward, but it was effective.

We did that with our sons when they were in elementary school. It wasn't a large amount of money, but allowed them to purchase some clothes that they wanted.

I'd think maybe a special treat like a movie they'd like to see or some such every once in awhile for an A would be nice, but not to be expected.
