It does not matter what corn can do for our bodies or our cards. It matters that the mass production of corn is bleeding the land of nutrients, destroying wild ecosystems, and the factories to process the corn into syrup and other additives and derivatives are polluting the environment at a rate faster than any corn-ethanol fuel alternative can save it.
No, we do increase the cost and affect the harvest of corn by derailing it for fuel and not use as a food. We have many alternatives - this one is not a positive choice. Though it did do wonders for the Chicago commodities market.
Not a thing we are looking at or discussing is new - the research has been ongoing for more then 40 years so let's use things that actually accomplish something other then a "band-aid" affect or to temporarily yet suddenly push the numbers in commodities.
ETOH has minor benefits over MBTE additives, and for peak oil. Overall, it's great for ADM and related stockholders, but is carbon-adverse and avoids dealing with the real need for non-carbon based direct and indirect solar energy systems. It's a strong negative when marketed as if a long term goal to replace petro-carbon fuels.
