No, my parrot has an id band. The numbers are recorded at her vet.

I did have my dog microchipped. In winter, he always rolls in the snow and his main collar gets wet. So there are times he is out without his collar and if he ever got away, he can be identified by the microchip. There was nothing cruel about it either! Just a shot was all it was! He has had many shots throughout his life so far.
