and the type of illness. If they are basically bed ridden, then I wouldn't see a huge difference.

May depend on what the woman was in for, what might await her outside, what medical care she needs, and whether she would be better off on the outside or in prison. One case in point is Myra Hindley with lung cancer. But nobody would forget or forgive that she committed one of the most horrendous crimes in England, and someone would be waiting.
