K-12 -- America's School Spirit Challenge

I am the Vice President of Philanthropy for Pi Beta Phi sorority at The University of Alabama and we work a good bit with Holt Elementary School. Our philanthropy is Links to Literacy and we work to improve literacy in low income schools around Tuscaloosa County. Each week, a group of Pi Phis go to the school to read with students individually. The children there are the sweetest and most grateful children I have seen in a long time. Organizing events (and being an Education major) I am constantly volunteering and working in local Elementary Schools. Holt Elementary, by a long shot, has the most appreciative students, staff and faculty I have ever seen. The school's office, library, and gym are all in great need of improvement; however; the entire school is so grateful for the roof over the head and any supplies they are given. The teacher's eyes light up when they see us there to assist them and the children's smiles grow big when they see us walking in with books. Holt Elementary is diong everything they can to give these children the knowledge they need in order to succeed in life and the extra money would not only benifit the teachers and staff, but the future students as well.

I love Holt Elementary because the kids are so sweet and so caring and the school is so run down and needs so much work. They really deserve this!

I love Holt Elementary school because of all the amazing children it has. Even though the school needs alot of work done on it the kids dont even realize it and they always have a smile on their face!
