The Tomato Frog (Dyscophus antongili) is on the verge of extinction due to habitat destruction in Madagascar. This plump red nocturnal amphibian can be found near small ponds and rice paddies in the northern part of the island. The species spends most of its time on land, though seasonally it enters the water to mate and lay eggs. CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) lists the Tomato frog as an Endangered Species.
