The Farne Islands, are a group of low lying Islands only 3 miles off the
coast of Northumberland Northern England. Easily reached by boat from the
mainland they are a wildlife sanctuary and breeding home to thousands of
seabirds, including puffins, arctic terns, razorbills, gullimots and eider
duck. I've been visiting the Islands for many years and each year I find
something new to try capture on film. In addition to breeding adult puffins,
non-breeding juvenile puffins also return to the Islands during the
breeding season, and stand around in large groups looking oh
so cute! Using only a short 210mm lens I focused on the puffins, opening the aperture wide to keep the sea behind out of focus, so making the viewer concentrate their eye on the 3 puffins. Whenever one of the group looked directly at me I took a shot. This is the best of them. -Photographer Cornishlight |
