Known as Sagarmatha to the Nepalis, Mt. Everest
is famous for being the highest peak in the world,
with a height of 8,848 m (29,028 ft.). This view is of the west face of Mt. Everest as seen from the Ngozumpa Glacier. |
The first successful attempt to the top was accomplished by Tenzing Norgay (Nepali) and Edmund Hillary (New Zelander) in 1953.
