Pool and Mt. Shuksan, 1979. North Cascades National Park, Washington.
A short hike past the end of the dirt road at Artist Point, on the edge of North Cascades National Park, led to this pond of water reflecting majestic Mt. Shuksan. I shot this image with 4x5 Tri-X film. The negative recorded all the information necessary to achieve a good print. Substantial burning of the sky helps "contain" the central image, and small areas of the snow are hand bleached slightly on the print in order to achieve maximum brilliance.
