This shot was taken at sunset in 1997 atop SanDias Crest, just outside of Albuquerque, NM, USA. The elevation is over 11,000 feet (3,300 m) and though it was July, the temperature was a cool 44 degrees Fahrenheit (7 degrees Celsius). As soon as I was able to face west, I saw this sunset in front of me. Being somewhat familiar with natural phenomena, I knew that clouds could obscure the sun at any moment so I quickly snapped a few photos. Within three minutes, the flooding sunlight had disappeared behind the clouds. -- photographer, Eric Honeycutt.
