SUDAN Suicide Bomber Kills Youth, Wounds Others in Sudanese Church ‚Äď VOM Sources
On September 27, a suicide bomber in military clothing detonated a grenade, killing five youth and critically wounding four others, in Sudan's Upper Nile state. According to The Voice of the Martyrs' contacts in Sudan, "A pastor was having an overnight service in Khorfullus town, when an unidentified man walked into the service and detonated a grenade, killing himself, five children and critically wounding four others, including the pastor and his wife." VOM contacts added that the bomber was dressed in full military clothing, normally worn by government officials. VOM is assisting families affected by this tragedy during this difficult time. Pray God comforts and encourages the families of those killed. Pray for a speedy recovery for those injured. Psalm 118: 17, Isaiah 40:31 br>  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]

BOTH in SOUTHERN Sudan and in the Nuba Mountians, Islamic extremists persecute Christians. In both areas Christians are tortured, raped, mutilated, branded and sold as slaves, starved and massacured. In The Nuba Mountains there have even been reports of cruxifictions.
Tens of thousands of Christian children have been sold into slavery, and forced through torture and brainwashing to convert to the Islamic religion. This is all happening because Khartoum declared the Islamic law for the nation.

For years, Christians in South Sudan suffered violent persecution. Hundreds of churches were destroyed, and countless believers were killed. Yet their suffering only strengthened Sudanís Christians, and many continued to worship together in the bush. To help these faithful brothers and sisters, in 2005 Samaritan's Purse launched a major church reconstruction project. Today across South Sudan, dozens of these new churches are bringing the comfort and hope of the Gospel to war-ravaged communities.

THE Samaritan's Purse has sent me material stating that Islamic gang members have burned hundreds of churches in Southern Sudan. Their mission is to rebuild as many churches as possible before civil unrest, or turmoil in the government occurs.
Sudan was torn apart by civil war, Islamic gang warfare, and uncertainty in the government. While all of this was occuring hundreds of churches were burned and two generations of children have never had the chance to enter a church or a school, in many areas. If your church would like to sponsor a church in Sudan you may contact the Samaritan's Purse at P.O. Box 3000, Boons, NC  28807-3000  U.S.A. or online at or call this 800 number- 1-800-665-2843, E-mail sudan

Nearly 99% of the voters in the January referendum were in favor of dividing Africa's biggest country. By July the world's newest nation will be created and Africa will gain a 54th state. Christians in Sudan voiced their relief and gratitude over the successful completion of the long-awaited referendum. "We wish to deeply thank Christians across the globe for their prayers and our God for answering those prayers."

Sudanese Christian Woman Arrested for Evangelizing; Another is Attacked
On May 9, Hawa Abdalla Muhammad Saleh was arrested in an Internally Displaced Persons camp in Darfur. Authorities have accused her of possessing and distributing Bibles and promoting Christianity. Sources said she could be tried for apostasy, which carries the death sentence in Sudan. At the same time, in Khartoum a Christian mother of a 2-month-old baby is wounded and destitute because she and her husband left Islam for Christianity.

Christians Targeted in Sudan’s ‘Ethnic Cleansing’: The “ethnic cleansing” that Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has undertaken against black Africans in the Nuba Mountains is also aimed at ridding the area of Christianity, according to humanitarian workers. By targeting Christians, among people who are also adherents of Islam and other faiths in the Nuba Mountains, the regime in Khartoum is able to portray the violence as “jihad” to Muslims abroad and thus raise support from Islamic nations.   Read more>>

Christians Targeted in Sudan's "Ethnic Cleansing"
Aerial bombs on February 25th killed five members of a Christian family from the Episcopal Church of Sudan in Umsirdipa, located in the Nuba Mountains. The "ethnic cleansing" that Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has undertaken against black Africans in this region also aims to rid the area of Christianity. "The brutal state-sponsored militias are moving from house to house, searching the Christian and African indigenous homes as the government continues with air strikes," said a humanitarian worker.

SOUTH SUDAN: “Silent Crisis” for Refugee Women and Girls More than 300,000 people have fled brutal fighting and severe food shortages in South Kordofan in the Republic of Sudan. Most of the 400 refugees streaming into neighboring South Sudan's overcrowded Yida camp each day are women and their children, says Elizabeth Pender, an IRC women's protection expert in Yida. “Because there is no shelter at the moment, they are sleeping under trees, with nothing.”
