                                 An Angel Rescue Story

"In the summer of 1997, my family and I decided to take a road trip to Atlanta and eventually end up at Disney world.  So many things happened to keep us from leaving that night, like we planned my mother kept having strong feelings telling her not to leave, so we didn't that night.  Instead, we left later in the afternoon the next day.  While driving, we had a blowout on the right side of the car, which was my side, and it spun us out of control near a cliff.  We were all so scared, as my mother and I had no idea how to change a tire and my little brother was only six at the time.  The highway was completely clear of drivers-by, but some how I knew it would all be OK.  I looked up and noticed a cross, etched into the clouded sky and surrounded by sunlight.  Out of the blue, appeared a man in a rig who helped us with our tire.  He refused any type of payment from us.  You could just feel peace and love coming from this man, with the weirdest-colored blue eyes that I have ever seen.  We took pictures of him, but only the ones of him from the back came out.  To this day, my mother and I bring up that story.  We are convinced that we had angels watching over us."  - K. anonymous I saw angels December 24, 2008 4:21 AM

I believe in angels. As a young child I saw four angels by my bed. They held little bells in their hands, two of them were black with gold bells and two were white with silver bells. I suppose it signifies the balance of light and darkness. I would believe in them even without this vision. It was all so amazing, that you couldn`t call it my imagination really. Behind them there was a woman dressed in colorful clothes with a turban hat in which there sat a big red crystal stone. I don`t know who she could be, maybe an ancestor or a spirit guide/angel.

I also heard some singing at the same time, it sounded a little more flowing than normal singing - it is funny because, I teach singing as an adult now.

It has always been in the back of my mind and it is of course very comforting to know, that there are actually angels close to us.

Winter Storm Angel November 18, 2008 4:21 PM

I was caught in a winter storm in Nebraska, as I was returning from a business trip. I was about 15 miles outside of Omaha when my rental car ran out of gas. Snowing like crazy, road under construction, heavy traffic, lousy visibility, late afternoon and getting darker by the minute. Very dangerous place to be outside a car looking for help. Car sputtering and chugging, I spotted an off-ramp to a county road that crossed I-80. I swerved off so I'd be out of the traffic. As I coasted off, I saw a pickup truck parked on the off-ramp. My car stopped about 50 feet behind it. I saw the driver door of the pickup open and a woman stepped out. I immediately got out, hoping she'd have a phone so I could call for help. As I got closer, I saw she was taking something out of the back of her truck. When I got close enough, I saw it was a five-gallon gas can. She talked to me, but I don't recall her words, other than she said she had spare gas and I was welcome to the can of gas. I carried the can and she followed me back to my rental. We talked while I poured gas, but I don't remember any of the conversation. When I was done, I walked back to her truck, can in hand. I put it back in her truck, thanked her profusely. Somehow, it never occurred to me to offer her any money for the gas. She got in her truck and drove up the off ramp.

I hustled back to my car, ground the starter until it finally cranked up. I immediately drove up the hill, following in her tire tracks. I hoped to catch her and repay her. As I reached the top of the small hill where the road crossed over the interstate, the tire tracks just disappeared! They weren't blown away, not covered with snow... they just stopped. I had followed her up the hill not more than a minute or so after she drove off. There were no tracks going down the other side, which was the on-ramp back to I-80. No left turn or right turn tracks at the cross point of the road crossing the highway. No tracks at all. She just disappeared. She AND the truck.

I just sat there for a long time. I was just too stunned to think. I started to reconstruct the events and realized I didn't have any recollection of what she looked like. Or how she was dressed, color of her hair, sound of her voice. It was like even THAT had also disappeared, but from my memory. I remembered a truck with a shell, but then couldn't remember the color, the make, anything at all about her or the truck.

I've told a few people about this incident over the years, but even with the retellings, it still gives me shivers every time I think about it. I have no lucid or believable explanation for what happened. I'm not the hysterical type, of that I'm sure. Up to then, I did not believe in "angels." I do now. I know I have one. I KNOW I have one! – David

Do You Have a Guardian Angel?

By Stephen Wagner, About.com

"At around 7 a.m., I heard a knocking at the door, too early for anybody to visit. I got up, but my door was opening already. I got scared because the only two people with keys were my then-husband and the landlord. My husband was working and my landlord would not dare do that. But who did I see? My grandfather walking up the stairs smiling. I screamed in happiness. 'How did you make the trip?' I asked. 'Who brought you here? Why didn't you call me?' The last I knew, my grandfather was sick in bed and that was some days before. He then told me that he came to visit me for a moment. I was upset at that.

"He then asked, 'Where is your son?' I told him he was finally sleep. I told him how I felt so alone and disappointed at motherhood, and scared. He stopped me and with a hug and told me to make me some coffee. He told me, 'Now it's time for me to leave. I came to bless your son and it is done.' When I went to bed, he tucked me in and looked at me with so much love, and then he said, 'You will have a girl and she will be fine, and you will be fine.' I smiled and then he said, 'Come and give me a hug. I love you so much.' I did, but then I noticed I was hugging the air. Nobody was with me. My first thought was that my grandpa passed away and I called my grandma. Crying, I told grandma what happened, but she kept insisting grandpa was alive and fine. I asked her to check on him. She even put him on the phone. Who came to visit me that morning? Why did he look like grandpa?"

Numerous books and various websites on the subject of angels are full of anecdotes like this, and many even more incredible. Do guardian angels exist? Do they sometimes come to the aid and comfort of humans in need? Why do they appear to and help some people and not others? Do you have a guardian angel? If so, how can you find out? And how can you contact yours?

A recent poll published in Time magazine revealed that 69 percent of Americans believe in angels, and 46 percent of that group believe they have a personal guardian angel. There is no scientific evidence for angels, of course. The only "evidence" we have for their existence is the long religious tradition, stories from the Bible and the many anecdotes, like the one above, from people who believe these spiritual beings have affected their lives. Ultimately, angels are most often a matter of faith, and many believers have offered their opinions on what a guardian angel's role can be in a person's life and even how you can enlist their help.

What Are Guardian Angels?

Guardian Angels are thought to be spiritual beings that are "assigned" to assist people here on Earth in various ways. Whether there is one angel per person, one angel for several person or several angels for one person is open to question. But whether you believe in them or not, or whether you want one or not, believers insist that you do have a guardian angel.

What is their assignment? According to "Encounters of the Angelic Kind" at Future365 (now defunct), "they intercept at many junctures in our lives and help wherever they can to make our lives run smoothly. Sometimes this is by inspiring a thought to spur us into action, at others it is to lend us super-human strength, such as in the case of a woman being able to lift a car long enough to free her trapped child. Or we hear of a runaway truck, with an unconscious driver at the wheel, inexplicably swerving sharply at the last moment to avoid a bus stop queue of people. In fact, there are many instances, which are often put down to luck, coincidence or even a miracle, but which have the touch of a hand of light behind it."

So why don't angels come to a person's aid every time it's asked for? Sometimes, the article contends, "angels must stand back, whilst giving loving support only, as we work things out for ourselves - these are the times when we feel alone, the dark before dawn."

Joan Wester Anderson on Angels

People around the world attest that they have had unexplained, personal encounters with beings they believe to be angels. Best-selling author Joan Wester Anderson offers her view.

Joan Wester Anderson is one of the most prolific American authors on the subject of human experiences with angels - a vocation that was inspired by her son's own personal encounter (see page 2). Her many books, including Where Angels Walk, True Stories of Heavenly Visitors and An Angel to Watch Over Me, have been national best-sellers. Joan's website includes excerpts from her books, a calendar of her lecture appearances and radio interviews, a bulletin board and more. In this interview, Joan provides her view on the nature of angels, their purpose and relationship with human beings, and some astonishing experiences.

What's your definition of angels? Are they spirit entities unto themselves or are they people who have passed on?

Although it is commonly believed that angels are the spirits of people who have died, this is not true. All Western religions – Judaism, Christianity and Islam – teach that angels are a separate creation, never to be human, although they can take on the guise of humans when and if God needs them to do so. When humans die, according to these same faiths, they become like angels – that is, spirits without bodies. The proper term for this group is "saint."

What is the relationship between angels and the human race?

They have been given to mankind as messengers (the word "angel" means "messenger" in Hebrew and Greek) and guardians. Some schools of thought believe that each person is given his/her own angel at the time of creation, and that angel stays with his charge until death. In other teachings, angels are not one-on-one, but come in great glorious groups at special times.

Your books present some pretty amazing stories. How common do you think such experiences are?

I believe they are very common. According to Gallup, over 75% of Americans believe in angels – even more than attend church regularly. This says to me that many people are looking back at the coincidences in their lives and are beginning to see something else – perhaps a certain protection or comfort coming at just the right time. It isn't easy to convince people if they haven't had an experience. Hence, my own belief is that these things happen regularly, and many people simply choose not to go public with their stories.

I have total faith that there are angels , it is unshakeable . If there were no angels how do you explain that little inner voice that never leads you wrong or a chance meeting with someone that perhaps isn't a chance .

Runningfox, you have done your research well. I definitely believe in angels, and also the ability of those who have passed on to bring us messages in our dreams.

The angels are represented throughout the Bible as a body of spiritual beings intermediate between God and men: "You have made him (man) a little less than the angels" (Psalm 8:6). They, equally with man, are created beings; "praise ye Him, all His angels: praise ye Him, all His hosts . . . for He spoke and they were made. He commanded and they were created" (Psalm 148:2-5; Colossians 1:16-17). That the angels were created was laid down in the Fourth Lateran Council (1215). The decree "Firmiter" against the Albigenses declared both the fact that they were created and that men were created after them. This decree was repeated by the Vatican Council, "Dei Filius". "He that liveth for ever created all things together" (Ecclesiasticus 18:1) have been held to prove a simultaneous creation of all things; but it is generally conceded that "together" (simul) may here mean "equally", in the sense that all things were "alike" created. They are spirits; the writer of the Epistle to the Hebrews says: "Are they not all ministering spirits, sent to minister to them who shall receive the inheritance of salvation?" (Hebrews 1:14).

Angels October 19, 2008 6:46 PM

Do angels really exist? Skeptics say they are just fictional characters from Bible stories, but people around the world have reported personal encounters or sightings of beings that they believe are angels. Whether you believe or not, the people who tell these true stories will always be convinced that these extraordinary beings really do exist.

Angels are everywhere at the Christmas season - on holiday cards, wrapping paper, gifts and store displays. Some people will tell you, however, that the presence of angels is much more tangible, unexplained and more more miraculous than most of us realize. Read their true stories of angelic encounters and decide for yourself.

From Angelic Encounters:

Perfect Fit
It was the day before I was to start my junior year of high school. It was a beautiful day outside, but I was too busy feeling sorry for myself to notice. We didn't have much money. Everything I earned I gave to my parents. Just once I wanted a new dress for the first day of school. I was pacing in my room feeling very depressed. Then I heard a voice say, "Why do you fret so? Remember the lilies of the fields. Are you not more important than they?" I answered, "Yes." Then I felt very peaceful and happy. A few minutes later, I heard a car drive up and a lady talking to my mother. After the car drove off, my mother called me downstairs. A lady had a bag of clothes. She told my mother she had bought them for her daughter, but her daughter didn't like them. She was going to throw the dresses away, but had an overpowering urge to bring them to our house. We never saw that lady again. In the bag were five dresses. They still had the price tags on them. I am very short; I have to hem everything. Those dresses were my size and the right color for my complexion. Most surprising, I didn't have to hem them. - Anonymous

Calming and Beautiful Presence
My life has been hard and painful, but because of my growing awareness of my spirit and God, it has transformed into a life of light and love. One encounter took place when I was 14. I was pretty much neglected by my single mom, who had problems of her own and could not give me the love and nurturing every child deserves. I was pretty much fending for myself and found myself wandering some dark streets around 11 p.m., alone and frightened. I had no idea where I was and was afraid of being raped (as I had been before) or hurt in some other way. My "friends" had abandoned me and left me to find my own way home (I was miles away with no money). I had my 10-speed bike with me, which I couldn't actually ride (I was intoxicated), and I was at a rare moment where I was feeling very vulnerable. (I was usually pretty self-sufficient and strong for a child and never asked help from anyone.) But I was very afraid. I had a strong feeling that if I didn't get some help soon, I would be in a very bad situation. I guess I prayed. Soon after this thought, I saw a brightly illuminated, smiling young man emerge from one of the darkened, sleeping houses on this lonely street. He said, "Hi, I'm Paul." Well, I found his presence calming and beautiful and I laughed. He said he wanted to help me, and this is all I remember. The next thing I knew, I woke up in my bed at home with no idea how I got home or how my bike got home with me. All I know is, I have a warm, glowing feeling every time I think about my angel, Paul. - Anonymous

Heavenly Escort
When I was a student nurse back in the early 1980s, I was responsible for taking care of a middle-aged lady who was dying of leukemia. She was a lonely soul as her daughters didn't much care for her, and her husband rarely visited (he already had a new woman in his life). One evening, after making my patient comfortable, I glanced out of the window and saw a figure in the gardens outside. As I tried to look closely, the figure seemed to fade out, becoming unfocused. I put it down to tiredness and dismissed the whole episode. As time progressed, and my patient declined toward her end, the figure appeared more and more regularly. I told some colleagues about it and they laughed, saying that I had an over-active imagination. Each day, I would look through the window and if the figure was there, and I would wave a greeting. One day, arriving on the ward, I went to my patient only to find the bed empty. My lady friend had died in the night and I worried that she was frightened and experienced it alone. Looking through the same window in days to follow, I never did see that figure again. I can take comfort that this being was probably my patient's guardian angel who waited to escort her away from this life to a place of peace and happiness. - M. Seddon
