About Me I am a recent Army veteran widow. My husband, David Larsen, passed away in January of 2015, after a nine month battle with biphenotypic leukemia (BAL). Although he was disabled and also had social security and medicare, we were put through hell at the Seattle VAMC, who refused to allow us to transfer to another civilian facility even though the "care" they provided was subhuman and should be named "Auschwitz". The irony of all of this, is they refuse to acknowledge on the record, that his service in the Middle East, and time spent around depleted uranium had anything to do with his illness. If this were true, seeking humane medical treatment elsewhere, for a terminal illness is not unreasonable! I met many people during our one month stay at the Seattle VAMC... None had a good experience to share, most were actually appauling. When my husband and I retrieved his records of our time there, we were not too surprised to read the lies and other private info (which had nothing to do with his treatment, was very private, and frankly none of their business) the file notes contained. We felt more like lab rats than human beings. It was like living under constant NSA surveillance. Something has got to be done about the "care" our service men and women are receiving, and how long they must wait to get it (and how much bureaucratic red tape keeps so many from even bothering to try). It is the biggest, most shameful situation in the country right now.
