10 Holiday Gift Ideas a Vegan Will Actually Love

Are you struggling to choose thoughtful gifts for the vegan loved ones in your life this holiday season? Whether you’re giving for Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or Festivus, it doesn’t need to be difficult to buy a gift a vegan will truly love.

Here are 10 creative ideas to help you get started:

1. A New Vegan Cookbook

If your vegan friend likes to cook — or wants to become a better chef – he or she will appreciate one or two excellent cookbooks. We can never have enough of them, after all.

Need some suggestions? A few cookbooks that should be in every vegan’s kitchen include:

  • “Veganomicon” – by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero
  • “Seitan and Beyond” – by Skye Michael Conroy, the Gentle Chef
  • “Thug Kitchen: The Official Cookbook” – by Thug Kitchen
  • “Forks Over Knives: The Cookbook” – by Del Sroufe
  • “Isa Does It” – by Isa Chandra Moskowitz
  • “How Not to Die Cookbook” - Michael Greger, M.D. and Gene Stone

2. Kitchen Appliances and Cooking Tools

Here’s where you can really shine. Get your vegan buddies a new addition to their kitchen — perhaps something they really want but haven’t bought yet because they can’t afford to at the moment. Try these ideas:

  • Vitamix – Literally everyone wants a Vitamix, the gold standard of high speed industrial level blenders. It’s pricey, but well worth the investment.
  • Instant Pot – The popular and handy multi-cooker that serves as a pressure cooker, rice cooker, slow cooker, steamer and more is a crowd-pleaser.
  • Food Processor – This appliance is terrific for making seitan, hummus, dips, vegan cream cheese — the list is endless.
  • Immersion blender – Whip up vegan salad dressings, soups, salsas and smoothies in a jif with this tool.
  • Air Fryer – Cook the fried foods everyone loves with little to no oil.
  • Tofu Press – Is your vegan friend still using heavy books to squish tofu between dinner plates? Get him or her a real tofu press instead.

3. A Donation to an Animal Shelter or Rescue Group

Vegans will truly appreciate your kindness if your gift is a donation to their favorite animal cause. Not sure which one to choose? There are so many, it’s hard to go wrong.

First and foremost, give to your local animal shelter or humane society. Just as valuable is a donation to a nearby dog, cat or farm animal rescue group.

If you want some reassurance that you’re giving to a well-run national animal-related charity, look at Animal Charity Evaluators. Groups like The Humane League, the Nonhuman Rights Project, Vegan Outreach and Compassion in World Farming USA get high marks.

4. A Vegan Cruise

Everyone wants to go on a cruise, but vegans will need an adventure that caters to their eating habits. Now, you can buy tickets for plant-based cruises as a gift. Look into Holistic Holiday at Sea or Vegan Travel: Vegan Cruises and Tours as possibilities.  Some mainstream cruise lines also cater to vegan diets.

5. Vegan Cooking Classes

For those who really want to learn to cook well, there’s nothing better than a hands-on cooking class. For vegans, a cruelty-free cooking class is definitely the way to go. Some classes are presented online, but if you want to gift the in-person experience, Google “vegan cooking class” for local opportunities.

6. A Vegan Skiing Vacation

Yes, now vegans can schedule a ski vacation complete with the type of meals they want to eat. You can buy a friend that vacation — in the French Alps, no less — from a U.K.-based ski chalet company called Ski Beat. I don’t even ski, and I want to go!

7. A Vegan Yoga Retreat

Vegans and yoga go together like peanut butter and jelly. If your vegan is also a yogi, buy him or her an experience he or she will never forget. Yoga retreats are held in beautiful, peaceful settings in Costa Rica, Mexico, Bali, France, Hawaii, Florida, Arizona, California, Maine and more. They can last from only a weekend to a month long.

8. Subscriptions to Favorite Vegan Products

Does your vegan bestie buy a monthly container of his or her favorite protein shake, subscribe to a vegan magazine or buy certain cooking ingredients online on a regular basis? Pay for a year’s worth of that subscription as a holiday surprise.

9. Fine Vegan Wines

Not all wine is animal-friendly, so if your vegan sibling is a wine connoisseur, buy him or her a top-notch vegan wine. Even better, buy a few bottles of different types for some variety. Then have a glass together, because what is wine without conversation?

10. Gift Certificates to a Vegan Restaurant

A tried and true idea is a gift certificate to a vegan restaurant. Give a certificate to your vegan’s favorite place, or gift them a dinner at a restaurant they’ve never tried before. If you have cash to spare, do it up right and hire a limo to make the evening truly special.

There are so many ways to make vegans happy during the holiday season. Give these suggestions some thought, and tell us what ideas we missed in the comments below.
