7 Adorable Animal Rescue Videos

Be prepared to laugh, cry and smile at these fantastic rescues of dogs, bears, penguins, and more!

Penguins Released After Oil Spill: At the beginning of October, 2011, the Rena, a large cargo ship, got stuck on a reef off New Zealand, leaking 350 tons of oil and killing more than 1,000 seabirds. Marine conservationists jumped into action, waiting on the beach for little blue penguins, the only nocturnal penguin in New Zealand. They were able to rescue dozens of the little guys, clean them up, and release them November 22, 2011.

Orphaned Cougar Cub Rescued: This young cub was found near Springfield, Oregon, with its mother lying dead next to it. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife brought the cub, estimated to be about ten weeks old, to the Oregon Zoo, who took care of it temporarily. A transfer to a special zoo in Texas is giving him a second chance to have a long and happy life.

Dog Escapes Being Killed: Chase had been abused by his owner for three years, and would surely have been killed if he had not been rescued. This beautiful, heartwarming video shows how Chase is transformed from a picture of misery to a glowing display of life and happiness in just three days.

Ruidoso Bear Rescue: A mama bear’s three baby bears got stuck in a dumpster last summer, until a young couple came to the rescue. The mama bear stayed up all night by the dumpster listening to her cubs cry, until Ruidoso, New Mexico couple Tom and Shirley Schenk arrived at light with a ladder to help the youngsters climb out. Delightful!

Kitty Mother Of The Year: When this baby squirrel fell out of a tree into her yard, this mother cat accepted the baby, along with her kittens. The squirrel has been feeding alongside the baby cats, and mama cat treats it just like it’s her own. The squirrel has even learned to purr just like a cat!

Mexico Zoo Rescues Baby Elephants From Namibia: Watch how happy these nine baby elephants look today. After their parents were killed by ivory hunters, Mexico’s Africa Safari Zoo arranged for the animals to be transported to Mexico (a 40-hour journey). It looks like they love their new home.

Dog Nurses Abandoned Tiger Cubs: The first time Bagira, the tiger mother, abandoned her newly-born cubs, the babies died. When vets from the Sochi zoo in Russia learnt that Bagira was expecting again, they advertised on the Internet to find a feeding dog just in case the mother tiger would abandon her babies again. She did, but a Swiss dog named Tally had been found and now she is treating the abandoned cubs as if they were her own.

The baby squirrel should be in the hands of a Wildlife Rehabilitator before it imprints...and is never able to be released into the wild where it belongs...

Wonderful videos. Reminds me that although there are rotten, cruel people in the world, there are also plenty of kind, compassionate souls. Chase's video highlighted such an important problem; the number of innocent animals being killed through no fault of their own, when all it usually takes to transform them into suitable pets is kindness and patience, and someone who knows what they are doing. We can't blame the shelters; they do their best and are usually underfunded, understaffed and overcrowded.

Too bad the good people who rescue animals don't outnumber those that create the problem.
