German Politicians Have an Unusual Plan to Fight Sexism: Free Porn

Germany’s Social Democratic Party (SPD) has developed an unusual plan to combat sexism which it sees, in part, as a result of young people’s consumption of mainstream porn. The country’s second-largest political party has developed a proposal to publicly fund feminist porn and make it available for free on public broadcasters.

Feminist porn is, in this case, “defined as diverse and inclusive pornography made in fair conditions.”

“Mainstream porn depicts sexist and racist stereotypes,” states the proposal. “These can have a lasting effect on consumers… giving young people completely unrealistic expectations as they become sexually active and preventing them from developing confidence in their bodies and sexualities.”

Mainstream porn is widely available, even for teens. Only three percent of porn sites ask for a users age, and what kids can learn from watching porn can seriously impact the way they view theirs and their partner’s bodies, what they know about consent and give them wildly inaccurate expectations about sex. These impressions can have long-lasting effects, particularly when teens are using porn as a main source of sexual education.

One UK study found 60 percent of students watch porn to get information about sex, even though 75 percent said porn creates unrealistic expectations. Two-thirds of these students also said sex ed at their school was not practical.

Even in countries where sex ed is more useful, teens still get unrealistic expectations from watching porn and these expectations can have far-reaching consequences.Forty percent of German teens under 18 have searched for porn online, and what they find likely falls in a very narrow view of human sexuality, primarily focused on male gratification.

PornHub, the world’s largest distributor of pornography, averages 81 million visits a day. Their top 20 most searched for terms are essentially a list of racist and sexist stereotypes with a lot of rapey vibes. Not exactly what we want our children to be learning about sex, when they inevitably do.

In mainstream porn, male gratification is more important than anything else, as is maintaining traditional gender roles.

Feminist porn, “rejects these categories as dehumanizing and provides an alternative to heterosexual, cisgendered sex.”

“There need to be alternatives, and they need to be free because young people aren’t going to pay for porn,” says Ferike Thom, who wrote the proposal. “But if free, commercial porn is all that young people watch, they won’t be seeing different body types and different perspectives; they won’t be learning about consent and communication.”

Thom says the hardest part will be winning over the older members of her party, and convincing them to prioritize issues like sexism even while putting out other political fires.

Porn is the ultimate in female sexism--women capitalizing on exploiting man's very normal and natural sexual desires. Of course, it's just another typical example of society's "feminist" double standard--the world bends over backwards if it perceives exploitation against women, but when women exploit men--by sexual harassment, abuse, and wallet plundering (which is a form of rape)--but when women exploit men, nothing is said. You can't have it both ways, girls. You can't have feminism with stopping gross misandry.
