Having a Vegan Wedding? Look No Further Than Rose Pedals

A new website dedicated to vegan weddings offers couples help choosing everything from music to caterers to jewelry for their big event.

The website is called Rose Pedals Vegan Weddings and launched on Valentine’s Day this year.

Rose Pedals offers photographs and testimonials from vegan couples who are married or engaged and a section on vendors to find what you need to plan your own event.

In the animal rights community we spend a lot of time defining ourselves by negatives: a list of things we don’t eat, a list of things we don’t wear, a list of companies we don’t support, or a list of places we won’t visit. It’s a welcome change to encounter people and organizations that make veganism about things we do and things we like instead of things from which we abstain and things we abhor.

Last summer Chelsea Clinton made headlines when she married Marc Mezvinsky and the menu for the wedding included many vegan and vegetarian dishes. Chelsea Clinton is vegan and so the the media inaccurately dubbed the whole affair “a vegan wedding” despite the fact that dairy, eggs, and meat were also served.

It was an ethical compromise on Clinton’s part that was more than a little disheartening to me and many other vegans who would have liked to see her plan her wedding her own way instead of kowtowing to omnivores in attendance.

Big benefit to young vegans
However in the wake of last summer’s festivities the vegan wedding has become a matter of some interest. Many vegans — especially young ones — say that negotiating conflicts with family over their diet is among the most difficult part of transitioning to a plant-based diet. A wedding can be the biggest family event in a person’s life and can bring those conflicts to the surface.

A site like Rose Pedals offers a double service in giving testimony from couples who have been through the process themselves and can offer guidance and reassurance to vegan couples as well as helping with the logistical problems of how to even find vendors for vegan wedding services.

Unsurprisingly Rose Pedals also explicitly supports same-sex marriage and non-traditional couples.

If you’re vegan and engaged Rose Pedals is the place for you. Make sure that the day you dedicate yourself to loving your partner isn’t a day where you compromise on loving animals. Rose Pedals shows that a vegan wedding can be a beautiful and amazing experience.

Brilliant post, thanks.

I'll definitely be having a vegan wedding, but I won't tell anyone beforehand. My finance is French and his family will have a negative attitude to the food if they know in advance. I hope to pleasantly surprise a lot of small minded people with just how delicious vegan food is.

The vegan diet is based on political beliefs. It is elitist group that considers everyone else as inhumane to animals.

The diet is not based on healing principals of foods. They have
no problem with white sugar, chocolate, and of course coffee.
Sorry guys, organic doesn't make these extreme yins healthy.

Vegan diet is unbalanced in the yin & yang principals in many aspects. And I have not met a happy vegan. At a vegan event, constant conversation about cruelty to animals, how horrible people are who eat meat..and the hatred directed to me when i told the truth, I am not vegan nor is my puppy.

A vegetarian diet does have it's benefits. But, if the anatomy and physiology of humans would be studied properly...the human body is designed for some meats. Regardless of diet choice...yes this is America, Freedom of Choice...it is loving idea NOT to be fanatical or hostile to others.
A business with a political agenda...no thank you.
I can bake my own healthy yummy cake.

Love it! When I get married, I will definitely not allow any meals that I myself as a vegan would not eat - I repeat the words said here already - meat people can live one day without it!

Hmmm, great idea. I would also use bird seeds instead of using rice. I heard it will made birds' stomach upset. So again great idea! : )
