‘No Collusion’ President Says He’s Open to Colluding in 2020

If the president were provided with another opportunity to collude with a foreign power to affect the outcome of a U.S. presidential election, would Donald Trump accept it? Oh, you betcha.

That’s not speculation either. He’s flat out saying it.

During an interview with ABC News, Donald Trump said he would be willing to accept incriminating intel on a political rival from a country like Russia or China during the 2020 campaign. “It’s not interference,” claimed Trump, wrongly. “They have information, I think I’d take it.”

Well glad we’ve got that cleared up. The very president who has claimed “no collusion” hundreds of times even after the Mueller report pretty clearly connected the dots between Russian agents and members of the Trump campaign is back to insisting that collusion is no big deal.

Even after receiving backlash for his latest comments, Trump doubled down on his stance on Fox News: “Of course you have to look at it, because if you don’t look at it, you won’t know it’s bad.”

Trump did at least change his answer on whether he would inform the FBI this time around about being contacted. Initially, he had argued that no one calls the FBI about this sort of thing and that the FBI doesn’t even have the manpower to address issues like that one. (For the record, FBI Director Chris Wray has stated the opposite.)

Still, it’s hard to give Trump any credit for his reversal given that he still wants to take the meeting and hear the information first. The notion that he doesn’t know better is preposterous given that this has been litigated – at least in the court of public opinion – for the past two years. It is very much collusion to conspire with a hostile country in this manner.

To make matters worse, top presidential aide and son-in-law Jared Kushner just said in a separate interview last week said that he wasn’t sure if he’d notify the FBI if Russia were to approach him with campaign dirt again. This should be such an easy question to answer in a way that doesn’t freak out the country!

Alas, the Trump administration has gotten away with it to this point, and with Dems sitting on their hands when it comes to impeachment, the White House have every reason to believe that it very much could get away with the same treasonous actions again.

In that sense, consider Trump’s words an invitation. You’ve got some dirt acquired through hacking that could help take down on a Democratic contender? Trump will take the meeting – and maybe consider telling the FBI if they’re not too busy or anything. Trump is possibly putting it out there in the hopes that he will be approached. “No collusion!” doesn’t have to literally mean no collusion, after all.

Of course reality show flop and failed businessman, Donald Trump, is open to collusion just like he was in 2016 when his elephant killing, ne'er-do-well, namesake son, Junior, told the Russians "I love it" when Putin's intelligence agencies offered to share dirt on Hillary Clinton.
