Unarmed Black Teen Killed By White Neighborhood Watch Leader

This is such a sad story: the senseless murder of a high school junior in Florida.

On the evening of February 26, Trayvon Martin, 17, of Miami, FL, was visiting his father in a gated community near Orlando, FL, when he left during halftime of the NBA All-Star Game to get a bag of Skittles for his younger brother.

When Martin returned into the community, with the candy and a soda, Neighborhood Watch captain George Zimmerman, 28, began to trail him.

According to police reports, Zimmerman called the police when he saw Martin in the neighborhood and reported the teen as a suspicious person.  According to WKMG, a 911 dispatcher told Zimmerman that officers were on the way and not to interfere. Obviously he did not listen and somehow wound up in a fight with Martin.

When police arrived, they found Martin dead. According to Zimmerman, the shooting was in self-defense, even though the teen was unarmed.

Yet even though it’s clear that he shot the unarmed black boy, Zimmerman, who is white, has not been arrested or charged in the death of Martin.

From Loop21:

The family of the dead teenager is outraged and are demanding that tapes from 911 calls made by neighbors be released to help piece together what happened before, during and after the incident.

“I’m looking for justice for my family,” says Tracy Martin, Trayvon’s father. “I want answers but I don’t have any to give, not for his mother, his brothers or sisters. We don’t have nothing, but we want answers.”

Neighbors are just as upset that no arrests have been made. Police are saying they need time to conduct a proper and “fair” investigation.

You can watch interviews with Martin’s family here.

The police chief said residents upset by the lack of an arrest so far should wait until the investigation is completed. The State Attorney’s office will then decide whether to present it to a grand jury.

It is outrageous that so far no one has been charged in the death of an innocent child, over two weeks ago.

Furthermore, why did Zimmerman, as leader of the neighborhood watch force, need to carry a gun?

And another question: if the situation were reversed, and Martin had shot and killed Zimmerman, don’t you think they would have arrested Martin immediately?

Get rid of guns altogether!

I've heard enough about Zimmerman from reports of those who know him well enough to report and it is not as glowing as you write. The 1.6 second slur they've been playing on national news appear to be Zimmerman saying "these f**kin' coons always get away with it. in the actual dispatch, you can clearly hear him say f**kin' .....always get away with it. Whether he said coon or not is irrelevant, because his racism was very apparent. The kid was minding his own business, walking home from a convenience store with a can of ice tea and a bag of skittles. As he was walking, he was talking on his cell phone to his girlfriend and he told her he was being followed. She told him to run but he took the practical approach (had he started running, the result would have been the same) by stating he was going to ask the (Zimmerman) why he was following him. That's evidently when Zimmerman stated he was coming toward him. I think most people would find it eery that they were being followed and want to know why. I find it amazing that you are trying to demonize a 17 year old innocent kid who was carrying an ice tea and skittles and was committing the ultimate sin by wearing a hoody with the hood up because it had started raining. How dare you; really. How dare you!

Inna - come on now; you are telling your own story here. I've watched two of the callers interviewed and they both said there was no sound of scuffling like a fight, only the screams of Trayvon, pleading for help. Zimmerman was a self appointed neighborhood watch and people in the community stated that he seemed to care about watching out and they agreed. But, they never knew he intended to carry a gun while involved as a watchman, nor was he given permission to do so. He took carrying a gun upon himself.
What does a kid of 6'2" (if that's fact) have to do with anything Inna. You can be 10 feet tall but a person with a gun can end that 10 foot tall life in a split second as he did with Trayvon. Trayvon it appears, has incensed the likes of River and other Fox ilk along with their peeps who have it in for African Americans and bi-racial white/black. It's a well known fact that there is no love of African Americans by Hispanics. I hear it around this area all the time.

Inna Z. - I know what I wrote because I listened to the 911 recording of Zimmerman talking to the dispatcher. He was told not to pursue, but he persisted. He was NOT jumped at. He WAS stalking. He will get what he deserves. You can listen to the 911 recordings of Zimmerman and the other callers, none of who really saw what happened, at the City of Sanford's link: http://www.sanfordfl.gov/index.html the police report is also there and other documents.

What is ironic is that although Zimmerman was supposed to protect the serenity of the neighborhood his actions brought more chaos to it then the residents would have ever wanted, both on that night and in the present probably, even to the point of the police having to issue a release to the media to stay out of the gated community.

Eric M, sorry to say, but some things you said in response to my post, sounded a little bit too childish. You're guessing a lot. How do you know who attacked whom? HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT? How do you know what Zimmerman was thinking when HE WAS ATTACKED. He was out of his car, that we know. He didn't pull the trigger right away - that we know, because there was a fight. Looking at his picture, he's probably overweight and for sure he's not a football player, he is not 6'2" - nobody said that he was so strong and powerful, it wasn't difficult for him to overwhelm "the young kid". The kid overwhelmed him. And all your statements about Zimmerman "would be a laughing stock."?... Please, give me a break! His friends said nothing but good things about him. I don't know about him constantly calling the police, but he was a "watchman" in the neighborhood that was burglarized quite a few times this year already. Neighbors said that he prevented a few. And all the neighbors didn't say a bad word about him, either. Contrary, they are quite upset about media coverage. I agree, it was wrong to have a gun, but it wasn't against the law. He had a right to carry a weapon. If he wouldn't be jumped at, I don't think he would use it. The police didn't make an arrest, because all the witnesses, right there on the spot, confirmed Zimmerman's version of what's happened. Now, of course, thanks to people like you, everything has changed.
I am afraid that the outcome will reflect this hys

Inna Z. - The allegation, as noted by the evidence of grass on Zimmerman's back in the police officer's report, that Zimmerman wound up with his back on the ground just proves that Zimmerman should have let the police handle this matter. He was told by the dispatcher in his 911 call that he needed to stop following Martin, and that police had been dispatched, and yet he persisted. You also fail to note that Zimmerman had called police almost once a day to report some type of problem in the previous two (2) months prior to this incident and that he had previously been arrested for battery against a police officer.

What would you do if someone was following you at night and then attacked you? Would you try to fight back? Some people who believe they have power over others will attempt to redeem themselves by overusing their power when they are put into a position where their sense of power has been taken from them. Maybe this is why Zimmerman ended up doing what he did. It would be outrageous to him to have to tell the police that this black kid had got the better of him in a fight and put him on his back. He would be a laughing stock in his own mind. He was in constant contact with the police and evidently liked to go to extremes doing his night watchman duties. The fact that he had a gun handy allowed him to vaporize this possibility by killing the witness that would report it. He was blind to the fact that other people might have seen what was happening because the

My post was cut short, so I'll continue:
Almost none of the thousands of articles since have mentioned any of the details described by the witness. Some, however, have attributed false statements to this witness. On March 16th, the Sanford police department released new details to the Orlando Sentinel. Once again, these details have been ignored or changed by the media.

The witness reports that George Zimmerman was on the ground and Trayvon is on top of him punching him.The witness says that George Zimmerman was screaming and yelling for help. Police arrive and find Zimmerman bleeding on his face and the back of his head. He also has had grass stains on his back. All this confirms the story told by Zimmerman and the witness. Police play the 911 tape for Trayvon Martin's father, who tells police that the voice screaming is not the voice of his son.

The media also characterizes Trayvon as a"model student." In fact, he under a five day suspension when the shooting took place. That is why he was staying at a house so far from his school on a school night. A lawyer for Trayvon's family has blocked access to his school records. However, you have to do something pretty bad to get suspended for five days.

Now that you know the suppressed facts of the case, you can for form a better more balanced opinion. Maybe you still think Zimmerman was wrong to pull the trigger. However, I think you will come to the conclusion that the "mainstream" clearly is pushing an agenda. Even whe
