3 Hacks to Boost Your Self-Confidence and Swagger

Feeling a little down on yourself? The transition from summer to autumn can be a tough one for many of us—it is a time of environmental shifts and darkening days, which encourages a lot of intense self-reflection. A lot of emotional baggage we’ve been ignoring for most of the year gets stirred up.

But just because you’re in the midst of an emotional fall clean-out doesn’t mean you can’t still feel confident. In fact, with a little mindfulness and empowerment, you’ll want to strut down the street no matter what season it is! To get you started, here are a few easy-to-adopt self-empowerment tools that are powerful self-confidence boosters.

1. Be okay with being unhappy.

We live in a culture that is hyper-obsessed with happiness. We all want to be happier, all the time. And sure, it sounds lovely, but it’s just not realistic.

No one is super happy ALL the time. So stop getting upset at yourself when you feel less than jovial. Our moods fluctuate naturally and forcing yourself to fake it only encourages greater insecurity. Allow yourself to be in a bad mood once in a while and don’t apologize for it. You are only human.

2. Surround yourself with people who inspire you.

If you hang out with insecure friends, it’s likely you’ll be more insecure. If you’re spending your time with people who complain about life, feel uninspired, or aren’t keeping themselves creatively stimulated, they are going to drag you and your confidence down with them.

To solidify your self-worth and regain your swagger, spend time with people who make you feel good about yourself. You want friends that challenge you to become the best version of yourself, not friends who settle and deplete you.

We are who we spend the most time with. Spend your time with people who make you feel confident and capable of anything! You’ll find the autumn season a lot easier to handle when you have friends to lift you up.

3. Stop judging your negative thoughts. Instead, flip ‘em.

It’s easy to fall into a mental whirlpool of negative thinking. But here’s the issue:if you’re hard on yourself, you are practicing negativity. Over time, that negative outlook becomes easier and easier to fall into. Eventually it just becomes part of your personality.

Don’t let that happen. You are incredible and need to remind yourself of that on the daily!

If you do find yourself in the midst of some mental self-flagellation, challenge yourself to flip it. I know it sounds corny, but stop the runaway train of negativity and remind yourself of three reasons why you are wonderful. It’ll be hard, but you can do it, and it puts the brakes on those self-deprecating thought patterns.

If you feel like you can’t do that, call up a friend to chat or journal in a notebook. The goal is to turn the negatives into positives. And no, in this case, two negatives don’t make a positive.

The more empowered you feel, the more self-confident and glowing you will appear to others. Even though the seasons are changing, that doesn’t mean you need to hole up in a den of insecurity. Embrace yourself and feel fierce and self-assured all season. All it takes is a little self-empowerment!
