5 Natural Face Cleansers, Plus a DIY Recipe

Have you ever checked out the ingredients on your chosen facial cleanser? When it comes to personal care products, itís easy to load up on a bunch of junk and dangerous toxins. You always want to be careful about what you’re putting on your skin! Thatís why Iím always on the hunt for the best handmade products and instructions for making things myself. In the past, Iíve covered making and buying natural†candles, laundry detergent, lip balm, deodorant, lotion, soap and eye shadow. Now, letís talk about face wash!

Making facial cleanser is easier to make than people may think. My favorite part of making my own products is that itís easy to customize your products, so if youíve got specific needs due to your skin type, you can make it!

Four simple and awesome everyday products that you can use to clean your face include honey, yogurt, oil and cleansing grains (See: 11 One-Ingredient DIY Face Masks). But if you want to go for something specific that’s worked for me, I’ve included a favorite recipe below:

  • A clean spice jar with lid
  • A box of pure baking soda
  • Jojoba oil
  • A glass bottle with a dropper lid
  • Skin safe pure essential oils
  • An awesome, pure honey (optional)

1. Fill the spice jar with baking soda.

2. Mix the jojoba oil with a few drops of essential oil into the glass bottle.

3. When ready to use, shake the spice jar once into your hand, mix the baking soda with 3-5 drops of the jojoba oil mixture, and a small dollop of honey (optional). Spread on to damp skin and massage gently. It might tingle a bit (fun!) Wash off with warm water and pat dry.

On the next page, check out five of my favorite natural, handmade soaps currently being sold online!

Only natural and organic ingredients in this fresh smelling and refreshing-on-the-skin wash. Never any commercial chemicals, unnatural preservatives, foaming agents, parabens, or dyes. This soap is made with organic oils, tee tree, organic lemon, and geranium essential oils to fight the toughest of face stress. whether it be a poor complexion or irritated skin. Very Creamy, removes makeup, superbly cleansing, but not drying. (Green Bubble Gorgeous, $12)

The Take It Off! Skin Care Line is an Oil Cleansing Method that uses naturally found oils to do the cleaning job. No harsh cleansers or chemicals like in so many of the commercial lines of products. This face wash uses castor oil to remove all the junk from your pores (with a little mild castile soap as well) and then replenishes the moisture back to your face with Extra Virgin Olive Oil. This can also be made-to-order depending on your skin type. (Sweet Things Homemade, $6)

Made with certified organic ingriedents, and naturally scented with sweet orange essential oil & carrot seed oil, this fresh facial cleanser is filled with skin enhancing ingredients to sooth and help heal dry skin. Ingredients include a safe & gentle surfactant and soap made from natural, organic oils (no Sodium Laurel Sulfates!). Effectively removes makeup! No toxins or synthetic fragrance oils are in this face wash! Also ok for sensitive skin, normal/combo skin, but best for oily and/or mature skin. (Skin 2 Spirit, $12.50)

The molecules in this plant based oil cleanser bond with the oil molecules in your pores. The cleansing process gets rid of excess oil as well as dirt and debris in the pores. Your skin is left clean, fresh, and soft. The GingerChi Purifying Oil Face Cleanser is a great way to deep clean skin without causing dryness or damage. Clients report improvement in the tone and texture of skin after one week of use. Use daily† for gentle exfoliation and to gently remove makeup. (Ginger Chi, $28)

Leaves skin dewy, clean and hydrated…one of my absolute favorites! Organic Rose & Honey Face Wash gently exfoliates, lifts impurities from the skin and helps restore moisture balance without the use of harsh soaps, detergents or preservatives. Use daily or weekly to leave skin soft, supple and clear. Good for mature, normal, combination and dry skin. The skin toning ingredients in this formula make it especially beneficial for prematurely aging skin. Organic Pink Rose petals, Rosehip powder and Oats act as mild exfoliators while Wildflower Honey, Organic Argan, Hazelnut and Rosehip seed oils soften, promote skin elasticity and deeply moisturize. Palmarosa Oil imparts a rose and geranium scent while stimulating cellular regeneration and balancing sebum production. Rose & Honey Face wash uses only dry oils which leave skin soft and hydrated without a heavy oily residue. (Eco Assist, $12.50)

I love the idea of a homemade skin cleanser, I think they work much better than the overpriced bottled stuff you buy.
