6 Awesomely Eco-Friendly Dog Beds

For Earth Month, we’re really trying to cover our topics. And we’d be remiss if we didn’t include some environmentally friendly ideas for keeping our furry friends in line with mother nature. As someone who runs a dog rescue, I am obsessed with pet products and being smart about what I buy. One of my personal favorite items, dog beds, can sometimes be a tricky one to get the nitty-gritty on, so I’ve rounded up my favorite finds over the years.

This “eco-tech bed” from Chazhound.com is made from over 20 plastic bottles from landfills. The bed is lined with eco-tech polar fleece (comfy!) and the outside is a waterproof nylon akin to tent material. The bottom cushion is made from orthopedic foam, making this an all-around badass bed! ($90, free shipping)

This “eco drop” bed from the super popular West Paw Design is an awesome design with double-stuffed comfort. Best part? The cushion is 100% recycled IntelliLoft fill and the outside is 100% recycled fabric milled in the USA. ($80)

Don’t let the $800 price tag on this sucker freak you out – there are plenty more where that came from, I’m just showing you the tops! A breakout new trend in recent years is handmade shabby-chic dog beds. Many of the popular picks on Etsy are made from vintage suitcases, but you can find a little of everything on there these days. This “luxury lounger” from designercraftgirl is a true work of art, complete with eight pillows.

These hemp beds from Harry Parker are real winners in the eco department. While the cover is 100% hemp, the inside is hypo-allergenic “green fiber” made from recycled plastic bottles. Azo-free dyes were used to create the cool designs, which are non-chemical. ($120)

This PUP-tent dog bed from Olivegreendog.com is made from military issued heavy duty canvas and so each bed is totally unique. The awesome vintage look is matched by total durability and easy-access snap closures. Handmade in Brooklyn, NY. ($110)

Another awesome pick from West Paw Designs is the “big sky orthopedic” dog bed. Made from fine faux suede, this bed is easy to take care of and super comfy for your little lady or gent. Beautiful! ($78 – $170)

I have an Irish Wolf Hound and finding a bed big enough for her was hard. I found that a used crib mattress from the thrift shop ($20.00) worked great and the crib sheet can be pulled off and washed.

I've seen beds on the Drs. Foster & Smith website (and in the catalog) that are made out of recycled materials, too.

I like the idea that some of the bed are made eco-friendly, I also like that their do not look like "Princess beds" , but sadly much to excpensive. Bad that you have to have a deep pocket to live eco friendly. So I go back and do my own out of recycling old stuff, which "snickers" like because it smells like home.

I would rather make my own. But these ideas would be good for someone not as DIY-inclined as I am. Thanks!
(sorry if this is a duplicate post - time will tell.)
