An Unlikely Decor Piece: Ladders

Looking for a quick storage option? Or perhaps a lighting base? Consider repurposing an old ladder as a side table or accessories piece. Here are four simple ideas to recreate at home.

Above: Originally seen on Living Etc., a tall ladder propped next to a sink provides plenty of towel storage in the bath.

At Mint in Mill Valley, owner Cecile Ruby Won displays dresses on a large wooden ladder; consider the same if you’re lacking closet space.

Above: For an impromptu bedside table; consider a vintage painter’s stepladder, which is tiered for books and personal goods. Above (R): A version similar to this vintage model can be found on Ebay or Etsy.

Refinishing the wood and painting it makes a great bookshelf and plants and art pieces like vases, etc. makes a very nice piece of furniture. Look at the finished ones for sale, they're not cheap. I would definitely refinish them, not leave them unfinished and messy like the ones in this article. That's a bit too 'rustic' for me! lol.

I love ladders and everyone has always thought I a weird as I go for the oldest and most used looking ones - they add so much character

My dad helped me build a 6 ft step ladder out of sturdy bamboo- put it in the backyard with a view of the hill beyond my fence- the cats perch on the bamboo steps and enjoy the scenery!
