How to Add CBD Oil to Your Nighttime Routine

CBD oil has officially gone mainstream, with the beauty industry and the food industry promoting numerous CBD-infused products. CBD — or cannabidiol — is a compound found in marijuana, but it doesn’t contain THC  (the ingredient that gets you high). This makes CBD completely non-psychoactive.

However, it does have a number of other potential effects, including pain relief and anxiety reduction. As such, it’s a fantastic ingredient to take before bed. If you’re interested in incorporating CBD oil into your nighttime routine, here are the two best ways to do it.

For Sleeplessness

If you suffer from sleeplessness or insomnia, you’re going to want to take your CBD oil orally in a way that gets it into your system as quickly as possible. For this, Dr. Josh Kaplan, PhD, recommends placing a few drops of the oil underneath your tongue. This method will have a more immediate effect than, say, adding CBD oil into a drink.

“Once the CBD passes through the skin under your tongue to the blood, it rapidly makes its way to the brain and the rest of the body, where it can start having effects,” he told POPSUGAR. “These effects are therefore felt within minutes and can last for a few hours.”

For Aches and Pains

If your concern isn’t insomnia but general aches and pains, your main goal is probably to reduce pain and get into a relaxed mood. For this, you might want to consider purchasing a lotion that contains CBD oil. There are numerous products on the market that contain CBD oil, ranging from budget-friendly to incredibly luxurious.

However, be on the lookout for products that contain “CBD isolate.” Cindy Capobianco, whose husband founded the company Lord Jones, which sells luxury CBD oil products, told the New York Times that these isolated compounds don’t seem to have the same effect as whole CBD oil. Similarly, while hemp oil may be a great ingredient for your moisturizer, it hasn’t been proven to have the same anxiety- and pain-relieving effects that CBD oil has.

You can also, of course, make your own moisturizer with CBD oil: Simply purchase a high-quality oil and mix it in with your favorite unscented moisturizer. Add a few drops of essential oil to the mix (lavender is best for bedtime) if you’d like to add a distinctive scent.

Whatever moisturizer you choose, rub it on any muscles or joints that require pain relief. CBD oil devotees swear that it goes great lengths toward removing pain and muscle fatigue.

“I do so much SoulCycle that I have one hip that hurts,” Jessica Richards, the founder of Shen Beauty in Brooklyn, told the Times. “I tried out the CBD lotion. It’s not a placebo. It really does work for pain management.”

I really like the idea of using a lotion (or massage oil) rather than putting strange tasting oil under my tongue. Thanks for introducing me to this way of using cbd oil
