How to Lose Weight and Get Toned Playing Tennis

Exercising at home or the gym can get boring. But this shouldnít be an excuse for you to stop exercising.

Instead of quitting exercise, use sports to stay fit. Tennis is one of the most physically challenging sports, and if you play it consistently, you can lose weight and tone your muscles.

You donít even have to be a good tennis player to lose weight. All you need to do is hit the ball back and move around the courtóa lot!

According to Harvard health, someone who weighs 155 pounds can burn up to 520 calories playing competitive tennis singles for an hour.

Now, donít assume that youíll burn lots of calories every time youíre in the court. Most people who play tennis to lose weight barely burn calories, according to research.

This happens because folks take long rests and chat with friends through the entire game.

Tennis is a fun sport, but you have to play it with seriousness if you want to lose weight. You should always be on the move and at the end of the game sweat should be dripping down your face.

An hour of tennis will give you a full body workout. In fact, tennis activates muscles we donít target in regular workouts. I know this because my entire body is always sore every time I play tennis, despite the fact that I do bodyweight exercises every day.

You can still benefit from playing tennis even if you donít want to lose weight. It can improve your flexibility, speed and coordination.

Here are a few tips to help you burn more calories when playing tennis.

Use one ball

Using one ball will force you to move more. Youíll have to run for the ball every time it goes out.

Move when the ball isnít on your side

Donít stand still when your opponent is collecting the ball or getting ready to serve. Jump up and down or step from left to right.

This will not only help you burn more calories but itíll also keep the blood flowing.

Play singles

We can all agree that doubles isnít as fun as singles. But thatís not the only reason to play singles.

Singles will allow you to move more, and consequently burn more calories.

Playing with someone whoís a better player

A better tennis player will force you move more and run faster. You can even ask him or her to hit the ball in different directions so you can run more.

Use a tennis trainer

If you donít have someone to play with, use a tennis trainer. This is a tennis training tool that has a ball tied to an elastic string. Every time you hit the ball, the string stretches and then the ball comes back to you.

A tennis trainer can actually help improve your swing.

Will you play tennis to lose weight and stay fit?
