I have 4 cats, and I have an auto feeder and water dispenser. The problem is, when they are empty, even if it's in the middle of the night, they wake me up. They will litterally climb on me, bump there little heads against mine, meow in my face, and they won't stop until I get up and feed them. Sometimes it's only for a few bites. My cats are a little bit on the heavy side, except one, but they're not obese, and they are all indoor cats. I take them to the vet and he hasn't said anything bad about their health, they're all very healthy cats.

I have a cat who looks just like the one in the photo...except FATTER. And an aunt who's a vet.
She told me 5 years ago to feed him only canned food...protein. And that he should never 'free feed'.
So...I did that...and he's UP 3 lbs.
And yes, I've had him tested for everything. He's just...fat. And sedentary. And half Mainecoon.
My two dogs are in great shape. I just can't manage my cat at all. Any other suggestions? I've tried leashes (ha!), playing with him more, cat nip...really, nothing works. Now he's going on 12 years, I just let him be fat. He certainly seems happier that way.

Cats, like people, are all different. I used to always let food out and never had a problem. Then a year ago I got Sophie. It wasn't long before she was a plump little kitty. I then read only feed twice a day. She hates it but I have changed to doing that. She has slimmed down some and will probably loose more.
