I've had 7 diabetic cats and once you nail the routine it really becomes quite easy. Sampling on the ear is painless and quick and the insulin needle is such a small guage it doesn't hurt at all.

Of course, having a single cat who happens to be diabetic is far easier that having others. The other cats would expect dry food throughout the day. This can be a problem for those who graze throughout the day.

I kept my diabetic cat on a strict no carb diet together with a supplement. I was eventually able to leave off the insulin injections. He developed cancer at the injection site, which ended up killing him. He was a wonderful affectionate cat, he was an orphaned kitten, I had raised him on a bottle.

Thank you very much for this informative and useful article link. To state the obvious, cats can't articulate where it hurts and why. Articles such as this are necessary for us to be the best pet parents possible.
