Attempts to promote HIV awareness among Kenya's Maasai community have often foundered on the community's unwillingness to accept externally driven change ; but a new initiative is using 'morans', or warriors, to spread the word.

Seems like a good idea to literally wrap up sex education in a local tradition even if the concept of the sacred gourd is a little Pythonesque to western sensibiilties!

Opening the mind to prevention of aids is a wonderful start kudos to the Maasai Community for taking on this monumental task. TY Naoko Love & Light

It is also encouraging that this same system is being used to inform against female genital mutilation {FGM}, and against too-early marrying and domestic violence; and to advocate Family Planning. Some "traditions" need changing; a member of one's own group has more clout and credibility than an officious 'outsider'.
