It’s a dark, stormy morning at the Edith Wolfson Medical Center in Holon, Israel. In the windowless bowels of the hospital, Dr. Lior Sasson remains oblivious to the weather as he and a colleague work painstakingly to save a child’s heart.

She is Rosalinda, a 4-year-old from Angola who weighs only 11 kilos, or 24 pounds. Diagnosed with “failure to thrive,” she has what the doctors call a Swiss cheese ventricular septal defect, or VSD, which means she has holes in the chest wall that separates the lower chambers of the heart. The tiny girl rallies most of her energy for breathing rather than eating.

Today’s open-heart surgery will change her life.

It’s all part of Save a Child’s Heart, an Israeli-based international humanitarian program offering top-rate cardiac care for children from developing countries. Lior and his team believe every child – regardless of nationality, religion, sex or family financial situation – deserves the best medical treatment possible.

The lead surgeon for Save a Child’s Heart, Lior operates on children from Angola to Zanzibar who otherwise would not have the medical care they need.

Lior exudes calm even while holding a life in his hands. The Israeli doctor painstakingly makes minute incisions and stitches, while describing the steps in English for an observer and directing his medical team.

This is one of the children saved by surgery, this story may be a little old but it is an example of Israel's ongoing work for ALL children regardless of race, creed, colour or ethnic origin,

Israel does so much for the world and receives so little gratitude! Yet there are many who criticize her!

Not a day of your life goes by that is not positively affected by brilliant Israeli contibutions in the fields of medicine, science, technology, engineering, conservation, agriculture, etc........

And while not Israeli, don't forget that Levi Strauss gave us blue jeans.

Thanks for the reminder, Ge!!

You are all correct, no one gives Israel any credit, do you think Muslims would save a Israeli child, they would cut her off head , big difference!

As commendable as this act is, it’s not going to change the murderous image of Israel in the eyes of the world. Saving a child’s life is not going to bring the 500 dead children that Israel murdered in Gaza back to life.

Who do you think carry out limb amputations in Muslim countries, Rose?
Muslim doctors!!! Can you imagine Australian doctors doing it?

Sam, the war didn't start until Israel fired back to protect itself. You are denigrating the right of Israel to protect itself, the right that your country claims and does in other peoples' countries.

You fail to condemn the terrorist organisation, Hamas, who abuses their own people and thereby enable and support their murder f their own people. Nice one so when condemning Israel remember that you have helped Hamas kill and abuse those very children that you accuse Israel of.

You must approve of trafficking in human body parts because you didn't condemn the Rabbi who made a "killing" in that illegal "trade."

Besides, why did you have to dig up such an old story? You couldn't find a decent act that was performed by the Israelis more recently? They must have been consumed by killing the children in Gaza!

Sam, I couldn't be bothered to read any of the crap that you dig up so have no idea what you are whittering on about apart from the fact that is, as usual, racist. There are so many stories about Jews & Israelis stealing body parts that would be impossible that it is not worth me getting excited about it. Don't forget that the Muslims take healthy young men and strip them of all of their organs, you know, where they are supposed to escort them across the desert and be paid for it but rape the women and kill the men because they are Christians fleeing to Israel. Arabs had an honour code once.

As for the story, so few people want the world to know what good Israel does without Borders or prejudice so few stories are written. Now, would you or Rose like to find an equivalent story about any Muslim country doing this or something similar?
