Contrary to what's taught in schools across the country, the filmmakers found the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were militarily unnecessary and morally indefensible. And the beat goes on, the beat goes on..La de dah de dah.

Excerpt: "Academy Award-winning Oliver Stone has teamed up with historian Peter Kuznick to produce a 10-part Showtime series called "Oliver Stoneís Untold History of the United States." Drawing on archival findings and recently declassified documents, the filmmakers critically examine U.S. history, from the atomic bombing of Japan to the Cold War, to the fall of communism, and continuing all the way through to the Obama administration.

Contrary to whatís taught in schools across the country, the filmmakers found the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were militarily unnecessary and morally indefensible. They also suggest the Soviet Union, not the United States, ultimately defeated the Germans in World War II.

And, they assert, the United States, not the Soviet Union, bore the lionís share of responsibility for perpetuating the Cold War. The filmmakers also found U.S. presidents, especially in wartime, have frequently trampled on the Constitution and international law, and they note the United States has brought the world dangerously close to nuclear war by repeatedly brandishing nuclear threats. The first episode of the series aired Monday night on Showtime. For more about this series and the companion book, we are joined by Stone and Kuznick. [includes rush transcript]" more at link...

This latest honorable action by Oliver Stone, medaled veteran of the Nam era..will knock the arrogant socks off Americans. More specially those who still live in la la land..America the great! Based on what? Propaganda! A willing citizenry who would and has entertained the idea that America can do no wrong. Really?
Well from where I sit, America has been the most brain washed nation in the history of the civilized world. "We" have been a party to so many of the dark moments in history it's more then shameful and disturbing. America; Wake up! The ball is in y/our ballpark..Do "We" continue to allow war mongering leaders, who have agenda's so dark that the best of US sounding the alarm, feel impotent to change the dark course the world's been on for generations? America! If "We" continue to live in arrogant denial this horror, no mistake about it, in time, will come to a space where you and or loved ones live..

The world is on fire. Citizens clear around the world are feeling the squeeze! This unlike any other time in the history of world violence. Weapons in the 21 century are far more sophisticated, deadly. Weapons of mass destruction can come on the wings of a bird, mosquito, a quiet drone..

The people of the world, the Greek, Spanish, people of England, the brave heart people of Palestine, all are doing their best to hold back the dark night! What will "We", as compassionate Americans who are close to feeling the sting of austerity, etc., do? The Occupy Movement is a blessing, but they need more troops. I wish I could say I have the answer to peace on the world. In my naivety I sincerely believe that peace could be brokered but there are those who see peace as an obstacle to empire.. Please tune in to Showtime this coming Monday when Oliver's movie, "Oliver Stoneís Untold History of the United States" airs. It will be a ten part series aired every Monday.

Maybe when Americans, those who live in the shadows of truth, see this Oliver Stone's Offering, they will finally wake up! One can only hope..I may be an optimist, but never the less; Even an optimist understands when time is running out!

Oliver Stone is quite right, the modern concept of our history is well distorted (well, most popular history is, throughout the ages, in all societies) by historians who prefer to believe official versions of events, or even some who deliberately distort history in order to push their particular social or political agenda. Also, the maxim that history is written by the victors is just so spot on. The top skill that an honest historian needs is cynicism, especially of 'official versions', that is the only way to get at the truth. To be fair, most historians do often omit or overlook things without intending to, that is the nature of the task given such a vast subject, but the reality is that, especially for modern history, distortion and outright lies is the name of the game. Not so much that events are made up, though that does happen, but more the importance or reasons for things happening are distorted, sometimes out of all recognition. This is even worse if Hollywood has a go at filming historical stories. Truth and objectivity flies out of the window but what happens is that people tend to believe the Hollywood version of events rather than reality. Sad but true. I used to be a historian in my younger days so am well up on the tricks of the trade but certainly what Oliver Stone says in this article is far closer to the truth than the official version of events. Well done Oliver Stone!
