An extraordinary insight into Palestinian life in the city before 1948, revealing the loss of a culture and lifestyle.
Rarely seen archival footage accompanies memories and accounts of forgotten Palestinian cities and the catastrophic effect the creation of Israel in 1948 had on them.

Haifa, Nazareth, and Jaffa have all been overshadowed by Tel Aviv, but in their day each of the Palestinian cities had magnificent commercial and cultural ability.

Made for Al Jazeera Arabic in 2011, "Lost cities of Palestine" provides a rare opportunity to see Palestine as it was in the 30s and 40s and learn about the everyday life and culture of urban Palestine before 1948.

I've seen pictures of when the Palestinians were thriving. It's really sad to look back and see how their heritage has ripped away piece by piece - not peace.

Why does the world turn its face as US funded Israel murders Palestinians with impunity?

The U.S. provides Israel $8.5 million in military aid each day, while it gives the Palestinians $0 in military aid.

Denial of the Nakba, Denial of Refugee Return.

"Israel commemorates its independence day with a series of events celebrating a Jewish ‘homecoming’ to the land and the birth of the Jewish state as achievements of the Zionist dream for ‘Eretz Israel’ (all of Mandate Palestine). As Israel celebrates, it entirely disavows any responsibility for the destruction of the homeland of the Palestinian people and their forced displacement – what Palestinians call the ‘Nakba’ or ‘Catastrophe’. Early Zionist leader Israel Zangwill spoke of “a people without land returning to a land without people.”

This denial is also found in schools, on official maps and in law. It, in turn, helps perpetuate ongoing confiscation of Palestinian land, an existing discriminatory legal regime, and today’s forced displacement. In the words of Eitan Bronstein of the Israeli Zochrot (Remembering) Association:

"If the Nakba never happened, it is impossible that millions of Palestinians today are refugees who demand restitution of their rights."

Thanks for sharing Jess. That's one painful testimony of what once was, a chapter the zinonists chose to black out completely in favor of the myth of an "empty land", selling the lie to the world.
A state constructed on the destruction of another and its people is doomed in the long run, I hope to see justice in our life time.

Thanks for the film. The Palestinian people remind me in many ways of the American Indians of the USA. How the land was set aside for them, but then more was taken, and more was taken. How the good life they had on the lands of North America where they were self sufficient, had their communities, their culture, their system of life in tact and so much was destroyed because "others" chose to do so or live there. There is still a genocide going on in Indian Country, it just morphs into other faces and ways of doing so, so I hope for the sake of these people that one day soon things will stop becoming worse and begin to improve.

In 1928, Marcus Ravage a Jewish Rothschild biographer wrote an essay entitled 'The real trial of the Jews':
'The non-Jews have not yet begun to understand the real depth of our guilt.
We are intruders.
We are disturbers.
We undermined.
We have taken their ideals from them, taken their natural world, their fate, and destroyed them.
We have created in your history not only the last great war, but almost all wars, not only Russian, but also all the other great revolutions.
We have brought discord, confusion and frustration into their personal and public life.
We are still doing it'
(THE CENTURY MAGAZINE, JANUARY 1928, Vol. 115, No. 3, pp. 346-350)

does this remarkable quote make sense in the light of the above video ???

The Land of Palestine was given its name by the Roman Empire. The Arabs were already there, and the Empire named it Paleshtin (Palestine) after the Biblical Pelishtim (Philistines). Paleshtin = Pelishtim

The Pelishtim descended from their patriarch Pelish; they were a sea-going people who inhabited the Mediterranean coast long before the Israelites straggled in, and were not likely Arabs (though it’s not impossible). Nonetheless, the Arabs living there in the later time of Jesus came to be called Palestinians by the Romans, and they accepted the name. Recall that both Abraham and Isaac made permanent friendship treaties with Pelishti (Philistine) kings (Genesis 21:21-34 & 26:23-31) – centuries later the Israelites continually tried to steal their land and warred against them.

CORRECTED link to Nakba Map - Interactive.

This database includes information about the Palestinian localities that were destroyed. Browse them on the map; or, search for a locality by name or by the name of a place that was built on its lands.

http://www.zochrot.org/en

Please click on 'NAKBA MAP' at top, left.
Then click on 'APPLY' (in blue). A list of villages/localities will show.
One can type in the name of a Palestinian locality, or browse localities by district.

The link may be in Hebrew. Select ENGLISH (top right hand corner). Google access link is available, to zoom in/out.

Nakba is an Arabic word that means “catastrophe.” The Nakba was the destruction, expulsion, looting, massacres and incidents of rape of the Palestinian inhabitants of this country. It was keeping refugees out by force at the end of the war, in order to establish the Jewish state. And it is the ongoing destruction of Palestinian localities, the disregard for the rights of refugees and displaced people, and the prohibition against teaching and commemorating the Nakba in schools and civic groups.

Zochrot will act to promote Israeli Jewish society's acknowledgement of and accountability for the ongoing injustices of the Nakba and the reconceptualization of Return as the imperative redress of the Nakba and a chance for a better life for all the country's inhabitants.

Zochrot will act to challenge the Israeli Jewish public's preconceptions and promote awareness, political and cultural change within it to create the conditions for the Return of Palestinian Refugees and a shared life in this country.

Zochrot carries out different projects to advance understanding of Nakba and Return. This website is one of those projects. The site presents information about the Palestinian localities that Israel destroyed in 1948 and about the Nakba's place in our lives today. The Nakba and Return are spoken in different voices on this site — in photographs, testimonies, maps, prose, and more. Zochrot's is one of these voices, a voice that seeks recognition for injustice and new paths toward change and repair.

One would think the Jewish people should have a lot of compassion regarding to what they had endure during Hitler times, and then they just do kind of the same with the Palestinian people.
This is what I cannot understand. :-(
Love and Peace to everybody.

I hope that the Arabs can do more for the Palestinian case than just documenting the horrible events. If they have gathered their efforts and wealth's they would have liberated Palestine long ago

Aloha Farah, those countries who always helped Palestinians are/were systematically destroyed by the same entity which stole Palestine from the natives.

err, all Arab countries destroyed or ravaged.

The Iran under Hassan Rohani is currently converted into an America-friendly satellite and is considered to export (the best oil money can buy on the planet) to America.
Negotiations are in progress with the ZioNazi war mongers to consider The Iran a new member otf the unholy alliance of the Empire Of Arrogance.

This is why we hear now so very little from the corporate media about the opposition of the Apartheid Zionesia on the question of Iranian nuclear facilities in Natanz and Fordow.
