In a vote held on Friday, the General Assembly passed six resolutions condemning Israeli violations against Palestinians.

Among them was Resolution A/73/L.29 entitled “Jerusalem” which called for “respect for the historic status quo at the holy places of Jerusalem, including Al-Haram Al-Sharif.”

According to Days of Palestine, the use of the Arabic name for the sanctuary has been interpreted as a not-so-subtle rejection of the site’s alleged connection with Judaism. The Jewish name for the Noble Sanctuary, the Temple Mount, is not mentioned anywhere in the UN document.

The resolution received 148 votes in favor and just 11 against. It also stressed that the UN General Assembly “reiterates its determination that any actions taken by Israel, the occupying Power, to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the Holy City of Jerusalem are illegal and therefore null and void and have no validity whatsoever, and calls upon Israel to immediately cease all such illegal and unilateral measures.”

The General Assembly resolutions were condemned vehemently in the Israeli media, with Breaking Israel News slamming them as evidence of the UN “[continuing] its streak of frequently condemning the Jewish state”.

Other media cited NGO UN Watch — which is known for calling the UN anti-Israel or anti-Semitic – as saying that the “Jerusalem” resolution “implies that Israeli administration of Jerusalem hinders freedom of religion when in fact the opposite is true.”

UN Watch also labelled the “Syrian Golan” resolution as being “oblivious to [the] genocidal massacres taking place now in Syria, and its security implications for Israel and the civilians of the Golan Heights.”

In a rare move, following the General Assembly vote, the European Union publicly warned the Palestinians that they must drop their UN bid to use only Al-Haram Al-Sharif to refer to Jerusalem’s holiest site.

In a statement, the EU “[stressed] the need for language on the holy sites of Jerusalem to reflect the importance and historical significance of the holy sites for the three monotheistic religions, and to respect religious and cultural sensitivities.”

It added that the future choice of language “may affect the EU’s collective support for the resolutions.”

Commenting on the EU statement, the Jerusalem Post observed, “Until now, the EU has not taken a united stand on a drive by both the Arab states and the Palestinians to subtly change UN language with regard to the Temple Mount [Al-Haram Al-Sharif].”

Its opposition or decision to abstain on any future resolutions of this nature “would mark a dramatic shift in its policy.”

American Born Israeli MK, Settlers Enter Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound for Hanukkah (VIDEO)
December 4, 2018

Ultra-Orthodox American-born rabbi and Knesset member Yehuda Glick, along with dozens of Israeli settlers entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem, on Monday, for the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.

Firas al-Dibs, head of the Public Relations and Media Department at the Islamic Endowment, said that heavily armed Israeli forces escorted Glick along with dozens of Israeli settlers through the Moroccans Gate into the compound.

According to Ma’an News Agency, Al-Dibs mentioned that Glick and the Israeli settlers performed prayers while under the armed protection of Israeli forces and police, who were deployed across the compound.

Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, which sits just above the Western Wall plaza, houses both the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The third holiest site in Islam, it is also venerated as Judaism’s most holy place, as it sits where Jews believe the First and Second Temples once stood. The Second Temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD.

During Jewish holidays, ultra-religious Israelis typically visit the holy site under heavy security, causing tensions to rise between Israeli forces and local Palestinians, who are subjected to unwarranted searches and are arbitrarily prevented from entering the compound.

While Jewish visitation is permitted to the compound, non-Muslim worship at Al-Aqsa is prohibited according to an agreement signed between Israel and the Jordanian government, after Israel’s illegal occupation of East Jerusalem in 1967.

Knesset Members, Israeli Settlers Storm Al-Aqsa Mosque.
November 8, 2018

Heavily armed Israeli forces escorted an Israeli Knesset member, Shuli Mualem, as she entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, in the Old City of occupied East Jerusalem, on Thursday.

Head of the Public Relations and Media Department at the Islamic Endowment, Firas al-Dibs, said that MK Mualem stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound along with dozens of Israeli settlers through the Moroccan Gate.

Al-Dibs added that Mualem and the Israeli settlers toured the holy site’s premises in a provocative fashion.

Mualem had previously entered the compound in September.

He also mentioned that an ultra-Orthodox Israeli Knesset member, Yehuda Glick, stormed the Al-Aqsa compound on Wednesday.

In July, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided to lift the ban that would previously bar Israeli Knesset members from visiting the mosque once every three months, after incursions were banned since October 2015.

Netanyahu allowed members of the Knesset, mostly right-wing extremists who support the demolition of the Islamic site in order to build a Jewish temple instead, to visit the holy site once every three months.

Netanyahu pointed out that his decision was taken due to the recommendations of the Minister of Homeland Security, Gilad Erdan, and the General Commissioner of Israeli Police, Roni al-Sheikh, and the Jerusalem District Police Chief, Yoram Halevy, to once again allow Knesset members the possibility of limited visits to the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

After Netanyahu lifted the ban, Palestinian Authority spokesman, Youssef al-Mahmoud, spoke out about the decision to lift the ban calling it a “serious provocation” and “encouraging harm to one of Islams holiest sites.”

Meanwhile, Ma;an further reports that Israeli police forces also obstructed renovation works on the road leading to the Golden Gate in the compound.

Al-Dibs said that the Renovation Committee crews conducted renovation works to the tiles of the road leading to the Golden Gate due to parts of it breaking apart.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, which sits just above the Western Wall plaza, houses both the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa mosque. The third holiest site in Islam, it is also venerated as Judaism’s most holy place, as it sits where Jews believe the First and Second Temples once stood.

Settlers Continue with Break-ins at Al-Aqsa Mosque.
October 8, 2018

More than 100 Jewish settlers, accompanied by Israeli security forces, forced their way into Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque on Sunday, according to local sources.

WAFA correspondence said that more than 75 extremist Israeli settlers and about 30 students of Talmudic yeshivas broke into the holy mosque in groups, under heavy protection from Israeli police.

The settlers performed Talmudic rituals and prayers while at the holy site.

In late 2015, repeated incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque, compound by Jewish settlers and Israeli security personnel, sparked months-long tensions in the occupied Palestinian territories.

VIDEO: Muslim Worshipers Assaulted by Israeli Forces at Al-Aqsa Mosque.
September 27, 2018

Tensions increased at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, on Thursday, as Israeli forces assaulted a number of Muslim worshipers, while Israeli settlers performed prayers in the compound.

Firas al-Dibs, head of the Public Relations and Media Department at the Islamic Endowment, said that 924 Israeli settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound through the Moroccan Gate, on the fourth day of Sukkot, under armed security of Israeli occupation forces.

Israeli settlers stormed Al-Aqsa in large successive groups; many performed religious Jewish prayers in the compound.

Al-Dibs mentioned that, during the entry of the last group of Israeli settlers, an Israeli soldier stopped a Jerusalemite youth, demanding his ID, upon which he was unexpectedly assaulted and detained by Israeli forces.

Eyewitnesses said that, prior to the youth’s detention, Israeli forces beat and pushed him, along with his mother, while several other Muslim worshipers, who were present in the compound, were repeatedly assaulted.

No other detentions were reported, according to Ma’an.

Sources added that Israeli forces and police were deployed throughout the area and closed several the streets leading up to Al-Aqsa Mosque, in order to secure access for Israeli settlers.
