French leaders, Muslims, Jews, the pope -- all have been the target over the years of the weekly's crude...Satire!

In 2011 the magazine's office was fire-bombed and its website hacked. The attacks came after the magazine decided to rename a special edition Charia [Shari'a] Hebdo with the Prophet Muhammad listed as editor in chief. The saying, "100 lashes of the whip if you don't die laughing."
And it has also mocked Jews, like in , where a Jew, the pope, and a Muslim cry simultaneously, "We need to veil Charlie Hebdo!"...

If freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter"

BTW; -In Sweden we've had freedom of the press since 1776. Does any one believe we will give it up?

This is the equivalent of attacking ANY satirist, ANYWHERE. It's unacceptable; it's primitive, superstitious nonsense and it's got to STOP!

A free press can, of course, be good or bad, but, most certainly without freedom, the press will never be anything but bad.
Albert Camus

One of the unsung freedoms that go with a free press is the freedom not to read it.
Ferdinand Mount

No one forces those who don't like what this publication does to read it. They could ignore it boycott it but not to kill the people who ran it or work for it.

If people believe that their God, Prophets, or Holy People are so "special" then I feel that these Gods and Holy People are so much beyond this common human existence to even give a care what a few people publish on them. All Prophets and Holy People understand that humans fail all the time, greatly sometimes, but that does not mean they would expect other humans to go out and torture, kill, and be destroyed because of it. I'm very sure that these Holy Ones are far above the human condition and would expect such things. If one's God, Prophet or Holy One is that special then act that way and Rise Above it all.....no God, Prophet or Holy Person is going to be hurt or damaged over being made fun of or even disrespected.....By Rising Above it, you show to others that your God, Prophet or Holy Person can't be hurt by ridicule.

Where no one intrudes, many can live in harmony.
- Chief Dan George

It has been observed for many years that a sense of humour in young children indicates blossoming intelligence and a rich and unfettered imagination. It does not surprise me to see that children subjected from a very young age to hour after hour of intense ideological brain washing grow into adults lacking a rich sense of humour.
