of course this again is topical in our local news here and plenty of comments and statements from our lawmakers already in. I am stunned to learn that Europe is also working on such program and is said to have a hand in the US project as well. Our opposition pariy in Bundestag ("Congress") has formed a committee to address these issues and a lawmaker from our Green party is also heading the committee that is currently trying to work out an agreement with the US about which data to snoop and store and which not.
European Commissioners were most likely pushed by US into the whole affair, as have happened on numerous other subjects.

University experts today also said that such super computer is still far from any ready-to-use stage, though. The NSA project was called ".. creating with large amounts of criminal energy". It also involves the drone surveillance.
And we all need to rethink laws about privacy period.

Mind boggling. If the NSA ever does developed this colossus they'll keep it locked aways to protect the military and political secrets they uncover instead of using it to crack the code for cancer and other horrible diseases. Our Govt in action.

Phil -but what this monster computer can ALSO do is crack codes of public institutions, banks, companies etc- cures for cancer have been long known-but govt and Big Pharma have no interest in healthy people.

They claim it will be used against terrorists and criminals - but the definition of "terrorist" or "criminal" can be VERY broad--

Freya-given that most all BANKS ARE IN FACT CRIMINALS-and most citizens that don't belong to the 1 or 2% are as well,("sucking on society"), that claim/description just might fit ! ;)

European lawmakers have already agreed that this is for no other purpose than a worldwide surveillance of ALL PEOPLE and THEIR ACTIVITIES.
