The Los Angeles County Department of Health has contracted with the Carson Animal Shelter to trap cats at various locations across the county. Hundreds, maybe thousands, of vaccinated, spayed, healthy cats will be killed. Feral cats are not adoptable. These cats are no more of a threat to human health than the pets that walk through our neighborhoods every day. This will cost the struggling taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars, based on calculations from previous mass trappings. Now is not the time to be spending, and killing is not the answer.

Please sign the petition. I hope this went up right. This is a very urgent and timely situation.

Sorry, signed it OC. My two cats [one is 6 yrs old & the other 1 1/2 yrs old] are indoor/outdoor cats. Do NOT use a litter box & they go outside all the time. Would hate the thought of someone getting hold of them. They are beautiful babies that are loved & taken care of. The baby was spayed at 7 months, to be sure no kittens. So I am sure there are other loved, healthy, spayed/neutered cats running around that would be killed for NO reason. Does society just insist on digressing?

thank you everyone. my best friend is at risk of losing animals she has spent her life savings feeding and caring for. she even provides for costly surgeries and medications. she takes the elderly in house for end of life care. she's a saint. and this is how the county repays her for taking on their responsibilty. (and by responsiblity, i don't mean rounding them up and killing them)

I too spend a lot of money & time trying to improve the lives of ferals & abandoned cats in my neighborhood. I've been highly critized for feeding because neighbors say, starve them & they will leave. Then I say, leave to go where? They shake their heads as if I just don't get it. It's very discouraging.

a few people who signed the petition seem to think ferals are adoptable. there are feral cats and stray cats. some strays seem feral, but come around with patience. the problem is that when they go to a shelter, they are evaluated and if they seem feral, they are considered unadoptable. the rescues are tapped out. they aren't going to try to socialize these cats. carson shelter kills 78% of the fully domesticated ones, so it doesn't make sense to spend resources trying to get ferals to tame down. my friend has a colony of 200 who are so familiar with her that they run out of the bushes when they see her from a distance. after years of feeding them every single day, maybe 25% will get within a few feet of her. only a couple will let her pet them. my own experience as a rescuer is that about half can be tamed. but, when you're working on a small scale, you can invest a large amount of time. and they still have glitches that average adopters aren't going to want in a pet. the county will tell the public that they are going to adopt them out from the shelter, but that isn't true. if you tell everyone that ferals are adoptable, then you're playing into the county's propaganda and causing citizens to become complacent.

Rafael this is so sad. They need to focus on killers and crooks. Wow that would mean there would be no Government left. I feel so helpless for these furry kittys.
