Simple and to the point. I think that has a lot to do with it, but factors such as having good health or not and a few others things also play into our lives. But positive thinking is certainly important.

Thanks, Cal! I've been somewhat depressed since my retirement late last year. I wasn't quite ready to retire, but my daughter was expecting her third child (this one unplanned) and was panic-stricken about how this would affect her career, so I offered to give up mine. She has a long road ahead of her and many opportunities for advancement; I knew that management saw me as someone who would probably retire soon. I'm not insinuating that I made a great sacrifice; it was a practical decision made out of love. I've been babysitting my three grandchildren two days a week while their parents work, and even though I love and enjoy my grandkids with all my heart, I've been feeling "unproductive," even though I come home more exhausted than I ever did when I worked. As I watched this little presentation about "success," I recalled what my granddaughter told me on Thursday as she hugged me after her soccer game (one of those 8 am to 8 pm days). She put her arms around me and whispered, "I love you grandma. I'm so lucky to have a grandma like you. You're always there for me." NOTHING I ever did at work gave me as much satisfaction as those words from my 6-year old granddaughter! No awards, letters of recognition, promotions --NOTHING! After viewing this video, I'm thinking that what I need to do is to stop feeling sorry for myself and redefine "success." I'm feeling better already, and I can't wait to get my next hug!

Thanks again, Cal!

I find that what you focus your attention on has a huge impact on your life. If you focus on beautiful art, images of nature and colourful environments your outlook is more positive than if you dwell on news that is often negative. Purposefully directing your thoughts and your mind towards a positive framework helps. Thanks.

We are what we are and we are what we think. It's our choice to make a difference.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but this How-to-Change-Your-Life-in-25-Words-or-Less video doesn't seem to say anything that hasn't been said a gazillion times before just on Oprah! In other words, it left me underwhelmed.

Thanks for this great post. It's good to be remember that we have everything we need to be happy and it's all about our thoughts. We are what we think, so very true. Many green starts for you Cal!

I can't believe some of the posts that I read on here, do you want someone to do it for you? You have to make it happen not sit on your ass and wait for someone to knock on your door dumbass....now if this applies to you I'm sure that I'll hear from you....

There is so much in the modern world that can beat the positivity right out of a person. Endless disappointment and disillusionment can invite you to give up on optimism and hope after a while. I accept that my biochemistry doesn't work in my favour in this regard! I, for one, would willingly give Mr Nightingale's method a trial run. I have explored the alternatives and they are dark.
