It didn't say why so much..and even in the UK don't you have to be found guilty first?
I have no doubt someone will bail it out...Hey, Sir Richard Branson, got a second?

Yes Ellen, even in the UK you need to be found guilty first - seems a bit odd, but doubtless wheels within wheels...

If you follow the link the complete (if still vague) article says the lawsuit was over freeing endangered blue-fin tuna from a Maltese fishing operation - Go Sea Shepherds! They need to keep the Steve Irwin on active duty to protect the oceans - I hope the bail is made.

Thanks Cal
There's something fishy, no pun intended, here. Things are moving too fast in the wrong direction. Lawsuits can takes years to untangle all the facts. If these F&F netters are claiming damages, won't anybody question why it is that it's " believed these fish were caught illegally - after the season closed, without an inspector on board, and without any legal paperwork for their catch." Who's on the payroll ???
Ellen, maybe we should all contact Sir Richard and try to pull this in the other direction.

We need to free the flag ship .. The Whales need Sea Shepard ...
if everyone gives a little maybe it can be done.
If they win in court will the money be returened to sea shephard society?
Maybe BoB Barker or Animal Planet could help out. .. Does anyone know out there Did if They ever get that other ship back?

This is not good. And it does ound like it is a ploy to obtain the "Steve Irwin" to hopefully slow up Sea Shepard or something.
But do you honestly think that Terri Irwin who aloowed her late husband's name to be put on that ship is going to let anyone take it awayy from Paul Watson ? NO SHE WILL NOT ! Neither will Bob Barker who is such a HUGE SUPPORTER of Sea Shepard . He bought the ill-fated "Addy Gil" and also provided funding for the ice-breaker "BOB BARKER" . So between the 2 and more than likey others - they will not allow anything to hapen to the ship - "STEVE IRWIN "!

Noted. Thank you for posting, Cal.

We need to ensure that all of the Sea Shepherd's ships are available to fight not only the Japanese whalers but also the corporate fishing fleets whose massive and frequently illegal industrial operations are destroying our ocean ecosystems. Not only does Sea Shepherd do great work, they also have an enviable four star rating, the maximum possible, by Charity Navigator, a well-respected independent rating organization. I will send a donation to help them post the bond necessary to free their ship.

The UK courts should be ashamed of themselves. Sea Shepherd does what no country has even attempted to do for the oceans and their inhabitants. And what will the courts do when they finally realize that the Maltese ship was illegally catching endangered blue fin tuna? Then what will they do for Sea Shepherd? Say they're sorry? They should give the ship back to Sea Shepherd and fine the Maltese company.

Thanks Cal. Yes, it certainly does sound like a group of (? bad Who's) are behind keeping the Sea Shepard group from hurting their awful, often Unlawful and destructive actions. Lindsey Williams has a good idea, the e-store. Though Paul Watson is not the only person in our world actually doing positive things for animals, marine and land actively and dangerously. They all, have my wholehearted thanks, Paul Watson high among them.Sounds like 'paperwork' and relying on legal processes, may keep the ship and crews/staff from doing what needs to be done. Though Money does Speak- silently and with whispers and shouts!

Hope Sea Shepherd can turn the tables and sue F&F for damages, restitution, and to gain ownership of the company and its fleets! Fish and Fraud should be put out of business for illegal catch and their ships made part of Sea Shepherd's Nantucket Sleighwreck as they cripple the fish poachers and whale murderers.

This is very disturbing, but I am sure there will be those willing to save The Steve Irwin who have the money to do so. This definitely sounds "fishy" to me (pun intended), and no catch is worth that much, and as was said, how can they hold or sell the ship "for ransom" when it hasn't gone to court yet?

BTW, I was not aware that Bob Barker bought the Ady-Gil. All thru the season, it was said that Pete Bethune, the Capt. of the Ady Gil had built it himself and it was HIS boat. It's at the bottom of the Antarctic now.

I suspect the facts are not as presented and that political forces are at work behind the scenes. The potential for corrupt involvement of various foreign governments in the Scottish and UK judicial systems has long been suspected from Libya and the Lockerbie bombers to the possibility of Japan, Denmark, Canada or any number of other governments who want to protect their cruel animal abuses from exposure by Sea Shepherd!

Unfortunately it seems that the law is more impressed by wealth than either environment or even preservation of international law. To threaten those attempting to protect obserevance of law seems to mean holding the international law in contempt by those who should be protecting it.

Greenpeace had a great idea... to raise money ..they sold you a piece of the ship. I bought my son who is a carpenter a banister for Christmas this year.. so where ever the Rainbow warrior my son goes with them. they are still doing that by the way.. great idea for the person you are having trouble thinking of a great gift for...

Diane L (110)
Friday July 22, 2011, 4:23 am
Ummm, don't get your hopes up, Sharon, but if you went to claim your "piece" f the Rainbow Warrior", think you'd get it? With Greenpeace, it's primarily ABOUT raising money to pay for yet more requests for donations.

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society owns The Steve Irwin, but the implication is that there has been a LIEN put on it to pay for a claim for damages caused. I don't care if YOU own something or not, but if you DO, you can lose it if you're sued and a claim is made against your property.

most Greenpeace workers are out fundraising, often door to door. most Sea Shepherd workers are actually out saving ocean life. this attack against the Steve Irwin only shows just how effective Sea Shepherd is and how scared of Sea Shepherd those who exploit the oceans are.

Well shut the front door!!! !.4 million dollar for bond. gimme a break thats jus ludicrus! someone has got to have deep pockets for such a high bond. Seems though that the lawyers working on this lawsuit could get that bond reduced if they any good at all what they do.

Something is not right here, I think there is more to this than meets the eye, forces at work which are not obvious to us. I am praying the Steve Irwin will not be lost, that would stop SS from doing their wonderful work. Which is no doubt the intention of whoever is really behind this. Noted, thanks.

Nyack, both your comments to be have been flagged and reported. Your obsscenities are not warranted, and I won't get off "Greenpeace's" back when I think they are not providing the services they claim. Stating my opinion is my RIGHT and I did so very politely. Want to attack Bill K. as well? He said it very well, and NO, Greenpeace NEVER "helped" the Sea Shepherds. It was quite the opposite. Do your homework. Paul Watson was a board member OF Greenpeace for 11 years before leaving there to start the Sea Shepherd Society. He became very annoyed with their lack of accomplishment, mis-handling donations and top-heavy management. I am 100% behind (SUPPORTIVE) of The Sea Shepherd Society, and always have been, always will be. I agree that there are just political power struggles going on here to discredit them and something isn't "right".

Some of you are correct. Unfortunately, Greenpeace has become more of a political machine lately. They used to be very active in stopping the Canadian seal slaughter, stopping Japanese whale hunts, etc. Lately, they seem to be more about raising money. Sea Shepherd is actually out there doing some of the very things that Greenpeace used to do. If I had some money, I would send it to Sea Shepherd so that they can pay the ransom for the Steve Irwin.

Would also be nice if Bob Barker helped out on this one. I know he's done a great deal already and he can't keep doing it alone by himself. Just can't afford to lose that ship! It's vital to save our oceans!

Kimberly J (46)
