Preserving just 4 percent of the ocean could protect crucial habitat for the vast majority of marine mammal species, from sea otters to blue whales, according to researchers at Stanford University and the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

Preserving 4% of the marine mammals "could" save the species??? Question is: How do we expect that to happen the way we are killing off just about anything in and out of sight that does not represent the human species. Who is going to stop who I wonder to reach and maintain this objective?

Nice theory, but that is all it is until all countries of the world can somehow end up on the same page by truly believing that presevation is actually a good thing to do, particularly pertaining to trees and animals, all of them as this theory will likely never be applicable to humans. Well, not yet anyway.

The oceans are all connected. How do we isolate the correct 4%? How about we just stop polluting and destroying the planet and the oceans and save all existing species.

4?? so little!! I think we should aim for saving 40% of the ocean!

Noted, thanks. But I think we should aim for preserving much more than 4 percent of the ocean and I also would like to see more than 10 percent of these species geographic range preserved as well! I would like to think that the ocean's biodiversity is represented across a much broader geographic range. And what about other life forms in the ocean that are not marine mammals? Perhaps we might need much more than this to sustain them and the beauty and richness that they also bring to our oceans! Why are we always reducing the amount of habitat that we give to nature and marine life for the sake of oil companies, fishing trawlers,
and non renewable fuels? I think we have it backwards.

4% is not enough, something more needs to be done or soon there will be no more animals left for our grandchild to enjoy!

That's great news! Even though 4 percent is not enough, it would definitely be a good start.

We need to save all creatures on land, in the sea and in the air, but I'm afraid all are doomed at the hands of man. If anyone read's the Bible knows that it phophecies that all creatures in the sea will die at the end of times and I'm afraid that time has come. There are so many dead spots in the oceans already that have no oxygen in the waters.
