With seal populations devastated by yet another year of poor sea ice formation in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Humane Society International/Canada is calling on the Canadian government to immediately cancel the 2012 commercial seal slaughter.

Animals need all the help we can give them, since our reublicans don't want to do anything about the climite changes going on.

Even if they are protected and the seal slaughter stops now, it will be a difficult thing for seals to survive climate change.

Needs to be stopped, especially since the government won't even listen to its own people.

Remember when the activists would spray paint the seals to destroy the market value of their fur? If Canada wants money so badly, why don't they offer these seals up for "adoption?" A lot of us sponsor animals in zoos this way already and I'm sure many people would be willing to contribute to the well-being of seals as well. Every seal could be marked with something that ruins their fur but doesn't harm the animal. These sponsored seals would then be off-limits to hunting and the government would still make a tidy profit, which is all that they really care about anyway.

wish that each day didn't bring us closer to another extinction of such lovely animals in the wilds of the world...
I guess that's why we're here, by choice of caring about what no one else seems to.

Thank you for sharing - it is a shame that this cannot be stopped

Hunting species already threatened by the loss of sea ice due to climate change is absurdly foolish. The seals, or polar bears, or any other sea-ice dependent species need no more probelms than the ones they face with the warming climate.
