You've got to be kidding me.

I say they go to the local news team, make a youtube video, post on facebook, twitter, local radio station, and....

EMBARRASS THE HELL OUT OF THIS COMMUNITY. Organize and make it so homeless people are treated like people!

As stupid as this law is, did the couple know what they were doing was illegal?

Saturday May 24, 2014, 9:59 am
no polite comment.

According to the comments they have been cleared of all charges as it should be.

There is no need for this. People are people, do we check at the entrance to the park and discriminate who can come in and who must stay out. The food they are feeding them with may help another person find a home or a job. We can't stop helping them especially since the governments (state & federal) aren't doing enough to help them. Thank goodness calmer heads prevailed and all charges were dropped.

Although charges were dropped they were told they had to apply for permits, which isn't likely to be given and if they continue on they will face jail time, so this is far from resolved.

They use one small section of the park and the rest of the park is open to everyone else, as well as it's only one day a week.

This same punitive statements given in this article that people "choose" to be homeless and that one meal a week is keeping them homeless is a bunch of crap. In this area the list to get on for help for housing has been closed since 2011, we've got the highest rate of homelessness in the whole State of Florida in this region and I think 2nd highest in the Nation. Social Services keep being cut back by a Republican held Legislature and this Tea Bag Gov. Rick Scott.

If they don't want homeless then build some affordable housing or open the list for people to get into existing apartments. Many times there just isn't rentals that are affordable for those with limited financial means to pay for it and keep the lights on. Jobs are hard to come by, jobs that pay more than minimum wage are equally hard to find, and those who have just got out of jail are screwed. If you don't want these people to do a crime then help them get a leg up.

I'm so tired of making the homeless sound like they are deranged and criminals. If you looked at the spanning of those who were in line some were in wheelchairs, others had baby carriages, and everyone was peacefully standing in line. It looked well organized to me and it's another thing of trying to make the homeless go away in some manner so as not to be seen rather than truly helping them. I wish them a lot of luck in their endeavor.

Thanks for posting Cal. .Contrary to the statement that these people are homeless by choice the majority are bruised reeds who cannot adjust to everyday life,They need both care and housing not discrimination .These people who gave them food are living examples of those who follow Christ's teachings, pity your police and government officials can't do the same.

Maybe get a permit and try to coordinate. I'm not certain they didn't trash the park daily.

You are always going to get the Jobsworths who can't see beyond the rulebook, and who have hardened their hearts to the plight of suffering human beings. Mores the pity!

This makes absolutely no sense!!! People tried to step up, with their own money / food, and give someone that little extra so they won't be as hungry. We don't know when homeless people eat regularly....there has to be an available Food Shelter in the area, there has to be Government funding to help these programs and the Homeless etc. We should be thanking these kind people publicly, not threatening them with a fine! These people have a very kind heart, and perhaps a little bit of extra money to buy some food for someone they know FOR SURE is in need. I think it is very honorable of them, and everyone else should be thanking them too....such as the people who make these silly, useless rules! God Bless You and thanks for all you do!

Chief Mike Chitwood it's scum like you that will do everything in their power to curtail the good efforts of people with good hearts like Debbie and Chico Jimenez just to further your own career. Suddenly the less fortunate are labeled as bank robbers while the real thieves continue to rape and plunge the country further into debt.

What needs to happen is the law makers must be made to live on the streets without resources for a month.

Outrageous, we are living in such a sick society. The police likes to shoot homeless people rather than helping them.
Debbie and Chico Jimenez, and the other volunteers show compassion and want to help homeless people, and are being fined?
God help us! Our world is crazy.

Feeding people shouldn't be a crime. If a lot of trash was left behind, then that should be addressed.
