Moscow's decision to enter the Syrian conflict with bombing raids may bring smiles to the Assad regime. On the ground, ordinary Syrians are paying the price.

Putin's UN Holy War. . .

The Syrian people don't all support the regime that Putin does.

Putin propping up an incompetent Dobbie Look a like a way to flip the bird at the West. Put has made Assad’s political survival a strategic priority, but the incompetence and brutality of his regime which Russia has amply contributed have ensured the task is unachievable. Even with Russian help Assad is losing ground rapidly. Partly that’s because the life is gone from his armed forces, which have been successful only in their campaign to slaughter tens of thousands of Syrian civilians. What Putin has failed to grasp is that violence and terror are not sufficient to keep a leader in office indefinitely. For the past four years Assad has deployed no other methods. He never offered those who fought for him a desirable future that would make them want to fight. Sticking with Assad offers no compensation only more depravity and abuse. Putin may be wanting to bump up the oil prices as well as getting the world to stop him trying to annex parts of Ukraine.

Obama put down a red line and said if it were crossed he would react.Assad crossed the red line and nothing happened.

That's why we now see millions of refugees and Obama has offered to receive 10 000 after they have been toroughly vetted.

This is why Czar Putin is seizing this opportunity.
