A delicate constitutional question flared up this past week: Do transgender people have the right to use the restroom they feel is right?

Noted. Thanks for posting, Cal.
I agree with the statement by Atty. Gen. Loretta Lynch: "This is about the dignity and the respect that we accord our fellow citizens...."
The "conservative religious" message is hateful, selfish and far behind the times.

I've used unisex toilets in Belgium while on holiday. It seemed strange, but there were stalls and so didn't know what genders were in there and there wasn't a problem at all.

Make all restrooms gender neutral with floor to ceiling stalls problem solved. Don't look in my pants and I won't look under your skirt.

Really it is discrimination against Trans people just like other minorities were discriminated against and it needs to stop.

When Christine Jorgenson, the first or at least the first NOTORIOUS person to have a sex-change operation, "came out" as a Woman, ABSOLUTELY NOBODY asked her or made an issue of, which Restroom she should use!
NATURALLY, and OBVIOUSLY, she used the WOMEN'S RESTROOM, and nobody thot twice about it!!!!!
Going into a Men's Restroom, with her high heels, makeup, women's hairdo, skirts and jewelry, now THAT would have been a Scandal!!! And, possibly gotten her beaten up....

I got NEWS for some people! TRANSGENDER FOLKS OF ALL AGES, HAVE BEEN IN OUR MIDST, FOR DECADES. You probably in some Department Store or Public Place, HAVE BEEN SHARING RESTROOMS WITH TRANSGENDERS OF YOUR SEX, ALL ALONG! Without knowing it!!! and, of course, with NO problems AT ALL.....
There has not, in ALL HISTORY, been ONE SINGLE INSTANCE of a Rape by a Transgender person in a Public or School restroom.... NOT ONE SINGLE ONE.
This is a MADE-UP ISSUE by Rethuglicans and the Religious Right. To DRAW ATTENTION AWAY FROM their hideous Agenda for the People of the United States, increasing the Tyranny and the Wealth of the Rich, screwing the Poor....
It is a MADE-UP ISSUE, because they LOST on the non-issue of Gay Marriage. They will LOSE on this one, too - but, in the meantime, just like the non-issue they squawked so long about on Gay Marriage, it serves as a DISTRACTION away from REAL VITAL ISSUES during an Election Year...!!!

A Trans man or woman, boy or girl, going into the Restroom INAPPROPRIATE FOR THEIR SEX, runs the risk of GETTING BEATEN UP. Often, SEVERELY BEATEN UP. Especially a Female Trans in a Male Restroom - some men are so VERY INSECURE about their Gender Identity, their "Manliness"!

I think too many people make a mountain out of a molehill. We need to make sure everyone has health care, we need to get rid of fossil fuel use and nuclear power and weapons. Don't sweat the small stuff! And yes it is and has been going on all of Marianne's life - it just wasn't discussed.

They need to place a Plaque on the entrance of a business or bathroom saying who they hate and discriminate against in the Name of Jesus. If I am a transgender girl then I look like a man. If I am a transgender man then I look like a girl. Really want boys and girls to use their gender of birth restroom ? do I have to carry a birth certificate ? Ted Cruz made it sound like child molesters would be prowling the stalls. One reason he gives me the creeps, I think he may be one, and his pastor too. Smoke screen for dirty deals in congress.

This, along with several other laws to protect religious freedom are nothing but ways to distract us from the real problems in our country, and to encourage the bigotry and hatred that festers in some people. No one should have to produce proof of their sexuality to use a bathroom.

This is a "what if" made up problem to distract from other human rights denied by discrimination. Disgusting attitudes towards human beings different but loved as much by God as he /she loves you. Love your neighbor.

"Do unto others as you would do unto me." I don't believe he had discrimination in mind. Religious Freedom laws just seem to unleash freedom FROM religion--or certainly the original spirit of religion.
